Should Arsenal look to sell in order to acquire this Belgian international?

Eden Hazard was a player all Arsenal fans hoped would arrive at the Emirates during the summer. To be honest, it would’ve been a miracle had it happen, but Arsene Wenger openly admitted his interest in the young Belgian international recently, which means we may not have to rely on a miracle to occur for Eden to arrive, but possibly a mass exodus at the club. The Frenchman recently revealed that Arsenal have to make a steady yearly income in order to sign big-name players. This appears to be the only stumbling block that Arsenal face.

The €30 million-rated Belgian can only be signed by Arsenal if the club’s profit margin can be maintained.

Wenger said:

‘You should know that each season, it is imperative to show a profit of between fifteen and twenty million pounds.

‘I would add that the purpose of a coach is to always buy at a price he sees fit.’

He added:

‘I really like him [Hazard] and, for several reasons: it’s his creative power, his ability to mis-align the opponent, his vision of the game and his consummate skill to address the last pass which make him a very interesting player.

‘Hazard has what it takes to play for a top-level club, and Arsenal are a top-level club.’

Well for a manager, who seems very keen on making profits in order to sign Eden, doesn’t have to look any further than his bench!

I’m sure if we sold all the underachievers we would generate enough cash to get Hazard in an Arsenal shirt. But who do we sell I hear you ask? Well most Gunners already have a list in mind, many may think that some of the players listed below deserve to stay, me, I just see them as cash cows and a waste of space.

Andrey Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner, Sebastian Squillaci, Denilson, Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski make my list of players who should be offloaded. Looking at that list of players I mentioned, I see us potentially reaching the €30 million mark quiet easily, especially if Zenit go ahead with their rumoured £12.5 million bid for Arshavin.

Bendtner and Squillaci could fetch us up to £12 million (combined), Denilson could go for about £4 million, whilst both Almunia and Fabianski could recoup us something like £5 million (combined). So my rough estimate would be around £33 million, and just like that Hazard could be ours, leaving the rest of what remains, including the years profits – which we obviously do generate – to be spent on other class signings like Lukas Podolski and Mario Gotze.

Who will replace the players in my list you say? Well I say look no further than our youth. We have enough quality there that could breakthrough into the first-team.

Wenger also confirmed the club will tour Asia and Africa this summer, playing games in Seoul, Beijing and Hong Kong before travelling to the Nigerian capital of Abuja. Hopefully by then Eden will be on the plane with the rest of the team.

Despite what people may say, Arsenal are still a top level side, and signing such players like Hazard may just be what we need in order to keep Robin van Persie around and attract more world class talent, as many would, once again, see us as a club with a vision for success. Well, an even greater one.

I think you are exceedlingly optimistic with your sales, even without the depressed nature of the global economy?
    Grouping them differently: Squilliaci,Denilsen and Almunia, £3m(and that with a BOGOF!);
Bendtner, Arshavin, and Fabianski will still be shy of £17m in orser to move them on.
So that clears the £20m ‘running the club expenses’ that is apparently needed. But if you are talking Hazard, Podolksi, and any other, then bye, bye Walcott or RVP.
Whilst I agree it would be nice to have these players, but I do not see it happening if we are in a battle with the money bags clubs?

Cant see us getting Hazard only if Walcott was sold. Our squad is top heavy we could easily do without,

    Alumnia 1M
    Squallaci 1M
    Arshivan 8M
    Denilson 5M
    Vela 5M
    Chamakh 6M
    Bendther 6M

Thats 32M and thats seven players off the wage bill approx 350k per week thats 18m in a year. Which is why we cant get rid of them due to Arsenal giving crap players very decent contracts.

Prefer like to see us sign a striker V Persie can play off someone like Ba from Newcastle he reminds me of Ian Wright lethal and a good team player. Plus a very solid left back who can defend like Taiwo his Milan move hasnt work out.

    Sczcnesy
    Sagna Kozzer Vermanlen TAIWO
    Song Areta
    Walcott Ox
    V Persie
    BA

    Almunia – 1m
    Manone – 3m
    Squillaci – 2m
Djourou – 6m (buy Samba or promote Bartley/Ignasi)
    Diaby – 8-10m
    Denilson – 5m
    Bendtner – 7m
    Vela – 5m
    Chamakh – 5m
Arshavin – (Zenit have offered 10m – snap their hand off)
    52mil’ – 30m for Hazard (or 13m + Diaby + Chamakh)
    22m left over.
Before any of you say “we can’t sell that amount of players” then I say this – “They’ve either been on loan or have offered nothing to the first team this season so we won’t miss them, we haven’t so far”.

I suspect that all of the players listed in the previous “hit” lists are paid more than they are worth. This means that their transfer values are seriously depressed, ie., other clubs can’t afford to match their current wages AND pay a realistic transfer fee. We may well have most of them till their contracts expire I’m afraid. At that point they are free to be signed by other clubs and they are earning nothing until they do sign for someone else and may well accept a lower (and more realistic) wage.
