Just how far can we go if we get by AC Milan?

Arsenal winning the UEFA Champions league. These words don’t seem to be in everyone’s mind. Realistically it seems impossible because of the various quality on show and the squad depth of the other European clubs in the competition, something Arsenal have been lacking for sometime. But it can be done as Arsene Wenger insists he would not waste his time if he did not believe we could go on and win the trophy if we get past AC Milan.

Arsenal recorded a famous 2-0 victory four seasons ago at the San Siro. At that time Milan were the holders, and pundits completely wrote us off, a slice of humble pie was served at the final whistle I’m sure.

And after Arsenal climbed back into the top four in the Premier League over the weekend, Wenger insists his club mean business against the Italian giants over the two legs:

‘If I would think we have no chance to win the game I would stay at home. I don’t like to waste my time.

‘I believe what makes football interesting is that you can win everywhere.”

‘We have shown we can win everywhere and I have full confidence in this team that we can do it.

‘We will try to play our game. Milan are a good side. We think we are a good side. We will attack, they certainly will as well. So it should be a good game.’

Wenger accepts Arsenal are in a defining period of their season, with a fifth round FA Cup tie at The Stadium of Light on Sunday – a tough run of fixtures that could keep us either in or out of the top four.

Wenger continued:

‘We are concentrated on every game we play. We do not choose the games.

‘We are Arsenal Football Club and we just try to win the next game.

‘Is it FA Cup, Champions League or Championship? I believe it is important we are strong everywhere.’

Wenger has so much belief; his words from this interview are quite encouraging to say the least. I hope the players feel the same too. We can win anywhere, and we have shown it over the course of the season. And our last visit to AC Milan was of course that famous win. Despite it being four seasons ago, I’m sure Arsenal legend Thierry Henry can have an impact similar to the win we so greatly enjoyed after hearing the words ‘no English team has beaten an Italian club at home’ get thrown out the window.

I honestly believe we could win the Champions League. We can beat any team. An exception will of course be Real Madrid, who we haven’t played in a while, but we can still upset them. Favourites Barcelona can be beaten; we proved it could be done last season.

As long as we can manage to stay strong, keep players fit and keep this good spirit up we could be receiving winners’ medals come the end of the season. We just have to show consistency over both legs of each tie and get some good fortune along the way.

Let’s get past Milan first will do fine. If we score first, I can see us getting the draw, at least.
    Up Gunners!

Lovely post keep up the good work. Thinks we can beat any side as well

We proved you can beat Barca in one game, not in a 2-legged tie which is what the CL is, aside from the finals.

If we get past Milan and I believe we can, because they haven’t been terribly impressive lately but they’ve been winning, then we have a chance at beating just about anyone excpet the two Spanish clubs. If we draw Madrid or Barca i think we’d be done.

Currently we are playing some shambolic football especially defense,Song and Rosicky and Arteta havnt put a foot right in midfield either.

Optimism is one thing but at some point you need to realise that this club is falling apart. It’s a result of buying too many youngsters (50 youth players on the books) that’ll never make it and giving absurd wages to players who were gambles at best. This Arsenal team cannot beat any team on their day, they will lose to at least 5 teams around the world unless those teams have a very bad day.
