Jose Mourinho at Arsenal? Then where will Wenger go?

I for one clearly don’t see the current Real Madrid manager bossing a club like Arsenal. He is, in my opinion, a part-time manager, one that plans for the short-term rather than the long. If Wenger was to ever walk or be sacked by the Gunners then we would need a manager who will stay longer than 3-4 years and his style of football must suit the club. In my opinion, Mourinho wouldn’t tick either box.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright can’t see Mourinho succeeding Wenger at Arsenal either. Glad to see that I and he are on the same page.

Wright was quoted in The Sun a few days ago saying:

‘He is a fantastic character and great value for both supporters and the media. But I hope he does NOT turn up at Arsenal.

‘There is talk of a job swap with Arsene Wenger and I am sure many Real fans would love to see the Frenchman take charge of their club.

‘He would certainly change the current playing style imposed by Mourinho. It is certainly effective. Yet while Real may be racking up both points and goals, they are still not winning any friends.

‘Against Barca last week, Mourinho’s team – not for the first time – seemed happy to kick lumps out of the opposition and it certainly was not pretty.’

Wright acknowledges Mourinho’s ability as a coach, but thinks the former Inter Milan boss brings a lot of unwanted baggage to the table:

‘Mourinho has brilliant tactical ability but also a nose for an argument.

‘He always seems to be in conflict with his players, opposing managers, fans or the board. The Premier League is where he is happiest. Perhaps over here, the fans understand what he is all about.

‘But I just do not think he would be suited at Arsenal, who have a history of doing things the right way.

‘I cannot imagine any Gunners manager celebrating a goal by sliding on his knees in the Emirates technical area.

‘Equally, I do not think Mourinho will ever get the chance of managing Manchester United for much the same reasons as why he will not manage Arsenal.’

All the above pointed out by Wright is spot on. ‘The Special One’ does have a bad habit of arguing with almost everyone associated with the club he is currently at or has been at, and that’s what we could do without.

His physical approach to his philosophy doesn’t exactly scream Arsenal. We’d end up like Chelsea to be honest – trying to force players to play a type of football they aren’t comfortable or familiar with.

Undoubtedly Mourinho is a great manager, and I respect what he does, but as a person he sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.

Tactically he’s brilliant, but Wenger is still the man for me, despite our recent form and results. He just needs a good kick up the arse to remind him what’s at stake this season.

I’m sorry but your delusional to think Wenger just needs a good kick up the ass. He has way too much power, no one tells him what to do and that is the boards fault. Unfortunately the only way that Wenger will budge is if he leaves, otherwise I guarantee you he will not budge anything about what he does for Arsenal.

My choice to succeed would be the current german coach.

Mourinho instills a will to win in his players. Almost half a decade after he left Chelsea they still play good because of him. Every Chelsea manager pretty much just follows Mourinho’s blueprint but they don’t have the same charisma as Jose so their efforts are mixed.
