Well here we go again.

Former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis believes Andrey Arshavin should reject a proposed move to mega-rich outfit Anzhi Makhachkala, claiming a move to the Russian league wouldn’t suit the Arsenal forward after a three-year stay in the Premier League.

However, since Guus Hiddink was named Anzhi’s new coach last week, rumours are now circulating that Arshavin, who is currently out-of-favour at The Emirates, could seek out a move and join up with his former international manager before the Russian transfer window shuts on Friday.

Kanchelskis yesterday told Russian newspaper Sovetsky Sport:

‘[A transfer] doesn’t suit him at all. How can you go from the English Premier League to our championship, which is on a different level.’

He added:

‘Playing in England, Arshavin gets satisfaction, there’s a different atmosphere there, different pitches, different fans. We can’t boast any of that.’

So poor has the 30-year-old’s performances been for Arsenal this season that he was recently dropped to the Reserve squad, leaving the Russian an incentive to leave the Gunners, according to Kanchelskis:

‘When you’re not getting match practice, then you absolutely have to pull yourself together, change the atmosphere, play for the second team.

‘He now needs to prove, both to himself and the coaching staff, that this decision was wrong. But on the other hand, Andrey needs to pull himself together, so that this change of scenery doesn’t handicap him further.’

If he was to ever return to his homeland, Arshavin did state in the past that it would only be for Zenit, the club he left to join Arsenal in 2009.

I honestly think Kanchelskis is infatuated with Arshavin – he always has something to say about him.

Personally, I can’t see the diminutive forward leaving Arsenal before Friday – a summer departure is more likely.
