Wenger insists anything less than a top four finish WOULD be a disaster

I realise even before writing this that it will be met with abuse and my opinions on the matter questioned, so here we go.

Following a disappointing result against Manchester United yesterday, and Peter Hill-Wood’s recent claims that it would NOT be a disaster if Arsenal didn’t qualify for the Champions League, Arsene Wenger has actually stated the opposite of his chairman, claiming it WOULD be a disaster not to finish in the top four:

‘We want to be in there, in the top four and anything else would not be good enough.’

Arsenal now sit in 5th place after their 2-1 defeat to United, 5 points behind Chelsea and a massive 10 behind Tottenham. However, is the chance of us finishing in the top four gone? Not by a long shot!

Chelsea still have to play United in 3 weeks time, and then in March have a difficult run where they face Man City, Tottenham and Aston Villa back to back.

Tottenham’s next run of games aren’t kind either with their next 8 games being against Wigan, Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal, Man Utd, Everton, Stoke and then Chelsea all back to back.

Arsenal arguably have a slightly easier run in and have a Champions League game against AC Milan. Plus, we should see the return of Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Carl Jenkinson, Kieran Gibbs, and Bacary Sagna all back within a matter of weeks.

I am not saying that it’s going to be easy for Arsenal to finish in the top four. However, I am saying that Arsenal WILL finish in the top four. There are points to be lost for Tottenham and Chelsea along the way and we don’t face Man City or Chelsea until April.

Arsene Wenger said in a press conference recently:

‘We want to convince people that we are capable of coming back into the top four.’

Yes we lost to United, but we can take positives from the game. We made one mistake that cost us a point, but at least we didn’t get drubbed 8-2 like last time. In my honest opinion, we’ve come a long way since then.

Let’s not forget just how many players we’ve actually used so far this season. It is not Wenger’s fault that we’ve suffered injuries. However, it is his fault that the tactics and results haven’t been great as of late. Does he deserve to go? HELL NO. Neither will there be anyone reading this telling me otherwise.

Tottenham have started to slip up and Chelsea aren’t playing well either. It is now time for the whole Arsenal side to step up a gear or two and get back to winning ways.

Finishing outside the Top four WILL undoubtedly be a disaster for the club and for us (the fans). But instead of turning on the players and the manager we should get firmly behind them and make sure that we don’t fall short of our goals this season.

It may not be wengers fault that we get so many injuries… but i tell you this, it is negligent to assume the injuries will ease when every year we have massive injury problems.

Every year, wenger has to play the injury card and every year we go months with out our top striker, or our top midfielder, or all of our full backs.

It is negligent that we lost three of our top players, and knowing full well we suffer from injuries every single year, we didn’t replace them adequately. And negligent to buy in players who have suffered from injuries in the past or are otherwise nearly 30 anyways.

There is no excuse for not being prepared for this scenario … we go through it every year !

He knows that its going to be a disaster….then why isn’t he taking any sort of actions to overcome it by purchasing some talented players..he sure is having the money in the transfer kitty.
