Well by now the words that will be echoing around every Arsenal fans’ mind are those of chairman Peter Hill-Wood:
He was quoted on ESPN recently saying:
‘From a financial point of view, not qualifying for the Champions League is quite a blow. We have been planning for not qualifying every year, so it is not a disaster, but it would be nice if we could.’
Now maybe he is right from a financial point of view, the club wouldn’t struggle if we weren’t to acquire Champions League football, but what about the long-term implications of the club and the feelings of the thousands and thousands of Arsenal fans in general? How could we expect to keep the likes of Robin van Persie, Jack Wilshere, Thomas Vermaelen and so on if we cannot qualify for the biggest European competition around?
For that matter, how would we expect to bring in big-name signings that we all desire without the draw of the Champions League football?
If you just look at money then the club would be ok, as we are currently stable. However, we were to look at the bigger picture we would have a torrid time keeping players and bringing new ones in. We are currently in a situation where Van Persie has less than 18 months to go on his existing deal and is still yet to sign a new one, should we fail to qualify, nobody could blame him for walking away.
Personally, I am sick and fed up of an Arsenal board with no backbone that in truth need to grow a set. We have struggled again this season because things haven’t changed. They raised ticket prices and where has that got us, being in a worse position than we were this time last season. Where is the blinking money?
Arsenal FC made money from the sales of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Gale Clichy and Emmanuel Eboue where has all that cash gone?
Now in my books that’s £70 million recouped for those four players alone, take into account we spent around £12 million on Gervinho and £10 million on Mikel Arteta, surely there is at least £25 million left in the bank from this summer alone.
WHY have we not spent anything yet again? Arsenal have made a fortune from the transfer market for the past several years, so where does the cash go? Certainly not on new players that’s for damn sure.
The Arsenal fans deserve something back from their club, because currently, and I hate to say it, not even the return of Thierry Henry has improved my opinion on the board. Don’t get me wrong. Thierry is a fantastic player and he is more than welcome at the club, but it isn’t resolving the immediate issues that engulf our beloved Arsenal.

hill-wood is a idiot.
Lack of Quality signings = no ambition = no top 4 or silverware = no RVP next year = no more quality signings = mid table = Disaster
Solution = Sack Hill-Wood Gadizs and Wenger now
Whether we qualify or not we still won’t buy any big players only cheap average players or so called youngsters with potential we are going nowhere at the moment I hope usmanov buys out kroenke so then he will bring back david dein who works well with wenger then maybe we might start being a real title challenger again
Well said. Whenever Deadwood opens his mouth it is a calamity !!
What are the problems mate? This league is still very tricky, passing judgement at this stage is naive.
All the best to the team on Sunday.

Wenger is responsible for the current mess. Yeah I know they are in the cl .I dont expect them to lift the cl trophy. better to eliminated in the qf than in the sf or even fina. The pain will be too great.
He has not fixed the defence to the quality rquired of a team to win trophies. He had stuck with a dodgy gk for close to three years. Unbelievable and criminal At any other club,he would have been dismissed for gross negligence.
Wonderful to read this seven months later.
Who’s the idiot?
