Arsenal legend, favourite, hero, icon, whatever you want to call him, Thierry Henry marked his sensational return to Arsenal last night by coming off the bench and slotting home a superb late winner against Leeds United in the FA Cup third round at the Emirates.

The 34-year-old, who sealed a two month loan deal with The Gunners from MLS outfit New York Red Bulls last week, replaced out-of-form Marouane Chamakh in the 68th minute and it took only 10 minutes for the Frenchman to score his 227 goal for the club he left four years ago, sending the fans, his team-mates and himself into raptures.

The legendary striker made a trademark run inside from the left to take a pass from Alex Song in his stride inside the opposition’s box before guiding home a composed, angled, low, right-footed shot past a helpless Andy Lonergan.

It was truly a night that Henry, the club and its fans will never forget.
