Arsene Wenger has told Arsenal fans that the club are no closer to signing players and to expect very little, if any, movement this January, according to talkSPORT.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of players this winter, predominantly Koln striker Lukas Podolski, but Wenger has only managed to acquire MLS star and former Gunner Thierry Henry on a two-month loan deal so far.
And with the January transfer window closing on Tuesday, Wenger does not expect a hectic period at the north London club:
‘At the moment we are not close to signing anybody. The transfer market is internal for us. We recently played with ten players out, to have only two or three out would help us a lot, much more than the transfer marker.
‘You can look around at all the big clubs and who bought players? Nobody because you can’t find players at the moment who can strengthen big clubs.’
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting anyone to come in or leave Arsenal this month. Although we are in desperate need of a striker to help out Robin van Persie with the goals, Wenger has bizarrely decided against. The Daily Mirror claims we had an £8 million bid turned down by German club Koln for Podolski and rightly so.
The fact is there are players out there to acquire, but once again Wenger’s stubbornness and frugalness got the better of him.
