Is Wenger serious?

Before the disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at the Emirates yesterday, Arsene Wenger insisted that our squad is strong enough to finish in the top four, and dismissed the idea of entering the winter market for defensive reinforcements:

‘Our squad is strong enough, yes [to finish 4th].

‘If the players come back we are strong enough. If we do not have the players back we will struggle.

‘Football is not a supermarket where you go in there and say: ‘give me a left-back please, and a right-back and a centre-back.’ We have to find the players better to what we have. When Vermaelen plays left-back, finding a better left-back for me is difficult.

‘You cannot every time buy a player when you have an injury, where do you finish? England is bankrupt, the whole of Europe is bankrupt and everyone continues to spend like nothing happened.’

Now although Wenger makes some valid points, I for one refuse to believe that he cannot find the right player, or bring in a short-term solution to fix the problem.

Yes our FULL squad is good enough to finish in the top four, but the fact remains that we don’t have this at the moment and because of it we are suffering, and will continue to do so by the looks of it.

Wenger mentions that Thomas Vermaelen is more than capable of playing at left-back and whilst I agree with him nobody can deny, including Wenger, that the Belgian is more at home when he plays in his preferred position at centre-back. We are having to play our best defender out of position to accommodate with our injuries. We are even having to play Johan Djourou and youngster Nicholas Yennaris at right-back! I’m mean come on now, is Wenger serious?

Andre Santos, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson and Bacary Sagna have all been out for quite a while now, why didn’t/hasn’t Arsene brought in a short-term solution? Is it really that difficult to loan out a player? It doesn’t have to be anyone phenomenal, just a player that has experience and can fill in until our players return from their respective injuries.

Even when the four names mentioned in the last paragraph our fit and back, it will take them some time to regain match fitness – they will not be coming back fully fit and raring to go like Wenger thinks.

I believe we still have a shot of finishing in the top four, but only if Wenger plays his cards right. If he doesn’t, then it could turn out to be a very rotten season for us and our beloved Arsenal.

fair enough he has the money if needed, and dont get me wrong, he really shouldve brought a couple of experienced players in, you cant say its easy to bring in a player on loan just like that. players with experience who are available will be short in match fitness (Bridge, probably not even good enough anyway). Youngsters would probably be more accessible, yet whats the point replacing our own youngsters with others? would come to the same outcome. We needed some real signings, not loans. Why couldnt we go for taiwo? quality left back, yet gibbs and santos are regarded too highly.. as is arshavin, squillaci and diaby. we need to get rid of the dead wood and bring in quality replacements and create competition.. it shouldnt be right for players like walcott to know theyll get picked even if they put in minimal effort. Lets just hope we can get into the top four, and hopefully therell be an overhaul in the summer.. theres to hoping!

The man’s economics is slightly skewed as is evidenced by Man City’s ability to purchase players at will. Yes if you have the money as a club you can treat any transfer window as a supermarket, the only difference, if at all, is that you should have done your research on that player before you make a bid. See Nasri’s situation at Arsenal; he still was sold because the bidder made some ridiculous bid that could not be refused. So yes Mr Wenker if you have the money and wish to spend it you can get the right player to help ease our injury problems. You can treat the transfer window as a supermarket you idiot!

Let’s follow your reasoning and buy two full backs. Then what happens once the injured players return?
The same situation arises if we loan players (nigh on impossible to get the players good enough) we then have to pay their salaries until the end of the season.
Either of the above scenarios will mean that we have players not even able to warm the bench as we will have too many players.
It is so easy in hindsight, but no one knew the injuries that would happen to our full backs (all four of them).
Then we have the talk about clearing out the deadwood…if nobody wants them what can Arsene do about it? Just remember that every single supporter thought Arshavin was the answer to everything..are we all know saying we knew he wasnt and its Arsenes fault..easy in hindsight isnt it?

I`m afraid I`ve become one of those who is looking for change at Arsenal at the end of the season but, in fairness to Wenger, he could not have foreseen the injury`s and could not have justified carrying more players as insurance, he has to be guided by our medical team (Gowd help him). Distruping a potentially winning team by an unbeliveable managerial error at this level is another thing ,it`s unforgiveable.

Not making it into the top four will cost us in more ways than one. And yes, it will happen this season.

‘football is not a supermarket’!? Wow, the club employs thirty scouts and all we do is sell players, where?? in the effing supermarket!!!

Wenger is not serious coz thz is the 7th year he is nt learning his mistakes n he’s transformg our beloved club into a’ next season’ club alwys optimistic. Its simple jst offload Diaby, Almunia,Chamach,Park,Squelaci,Denilson, Arshavin who always gv us some false hopes n replace them with 2 or 3 quality signings who will give a very stiff competion to to inconsistent Walcot n Ramsey
