Lucas Barrios is being targeted by a trio of Premier League clubs this month. If these reports are true, then Arsenal should prepare themselves for a battle with Manchester City and Sunderland for the Dortmund striker’s signature.

The 27-year-old Paraguayan star is said to be frustrated by the lack of first-team opportunities at the Westfalenstadion and is thought to be considering his options.

When asked about the Barrios rumours, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc had this to say:

‘We do not comment on speculation.’

It is believed that the Bundesliga club have put a €10 million price-tag on the Paraguay international.

So should Arsenal make a move for Barrios? Well with the other two clubs interested, especially Man City, a bid higher than the asking price may be required to prise Barrios away from Dortmund, who signed him from Colo-Colo in 2009 for only £4 million, so this may pose a problem.

But with the futures of Maroaune Chamakh and Andrey Arshavin in major doubt at Arsenal, the question on every Gooner’s mind will be whether a move for Barrios is the right one.

Of course Arsene wants to sign a player once their form has been horrible. There’s s great idea, wait until they’re way down the pecking order at their club and snap them up cheap.

I watched Barrios play yesterday and he’s definitely off the pace. Missed a one on one with the keeper. This is why we can’t win, Wenger buys players when they’re not good anymore.
