Leading football agent Phil Smith has denied rumours claiming Andrey Arshavin is on his way out of Arsenal this January.

Smith, who was involved with Arsenal during the tedious process of negotiations of the Arshavin transfer in 2009, recently declared that the Russian international is not unsettled at the Emirates and insists the north London club don’t want to sell him.

Speaking to the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning, Smith said:

‘He is not unsettled at Arsenal, they don’t want him to go, and yet I’m reading everyday he is about to go.

‘I can understand it because there is a high expectation level of him. But with players like Gervinho going out to the African Nations, he could be a real key player for Arsenal, and I don’t think all this helps. But he’s got to live with it, the club have got to live with it and he’s got to come through it.’

He added that there are some playing issues, but maintains that Arshavin is a professional and will play where he is told to:

‘There are playing issues.

‘He plays every time down the left side. He’s not really a left sided player. Having said that, he’s a professional and he’ll play anywhere he’s picked.’

Smith concluded by saying:

‘I’m not sure anyone’s seen the best of him.’

It will be interesting to see if the little Russian remains a Gunner following the closure of the window at the end of January. My opinion, I reckon he will be, at least until the end of the season.
