Former Gunner Ray Parlour believes Wayne Bridge would be a good signing for Arsenal, but reckons Manchester City will not allow him to join The Gunners.

The 31-year-old defender has made just one appearance for City this season which came in the Carling Cup and is highly likely to leave the Blues in the January transfer window.

In the past few days Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the ageing left-back (don’t ask me why) and Parlour thinks The Gunners would benefit from Bridges’ experience.

The former Arsenal man told talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast:

‘I think the only position that he [Wenger] will strengthen in is full-backs.

‘Andre Santos, Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna and Carl Jenkinson are all out with injuries. Full-back is a position where they are very light and are getting away with it a bit. Laurent Koscielny and Johan Djourou have been playing there.

‘Wayne Bridge would do alright. He’d be a good signing. He’s hasn’t played for quite a while but he’s still a quality player. Someone like that on loan might be a good signing but would Man City let you have him though? Why would they want to help the teams around them?’

To be honest, I don’t want Bridge to join us in January, or anytime soon. I actually LOL’d when I read the rumour, told my brother the news to which he just shook his head in disbelief and disgust. Ok, Bridge may provide experience, but the guy has only played one game so far this season, what does that tell you? He will severely lack match fitness and game time and would be a poor signing him my view, even on a short-term deal. I’m hoping City reject any advances we make for the former England international this winter.

If Wenger wants to sign a left-back on loan then he should go for AC Milan’s Taye Taiwo, who is currently unsettled at the San Siro, not a City reserve/reject.
