Nicollin confirms Arsenal interest in £42M striker

|

Arsenal and Newcastle United’s interest in French forward Olivier Giroud has been confirmed by Montpellier.

However, owner Louis Nicollin claims that Newcastle are ‘too small’ to buy Giroud and the Premier League duo would have to pay between £40-£50 million to land the 25-year-old.

Nicollin told the French press:

‘Newcastle? They are too small for him.

‘Arsenal? We must see if Arsene Wenger is interested because he has Van Persie.

‘Given that he [Giroud] still has more than two years left on his contract, he’ll cost a lot more, either €50m [£42m] or €60m [£50m].’

Giroud’s goalscoring form in Ligue 1 this season with 13 goals in 18 matches has alerted Arsenal and Newcastle to his services.

    we need world class players.

  • critic says:

ROFL… if puny players like him will cost 40-50 millions then RVP should cost 130-140 millions

Oh wait!! we can swap RVP for ‘god knows who’.

    Grow some brains.

One thing is correct though newcastle is a small time club.

Anything more than 16M for Giroud is robbery. He’s no doubt good, which is why little Montpellier can battle the big boys of Lyon, Lille, Marseille, PSG et al in Ligue 1. However, one good season cannot make a player cost 5 times more than his worth. If we can get Giroud for less than 18M it wouldn’t be a terrible deal but not more.

wenger only has couple of more years prob ( in his views). and he coinfrmed this is PAT Rices last season ( i assume he has the inside information and he sounded dead sure when he said that) he also critised the new owner, and said hes poor in his views and attitude towards the club. and that old Arsenal is long gun and all the traditions have gone ( traditions such as all the players will wear the same sleeved shirt as the captain, players will wear arsenal blazers and tie when coming to the match, and only man u does that) he didnt mean we havent won a trophy becayse of these reasons, but what he meant was that the SPIRIT once shown by Arsenal players as a team is long gone since the move to Emirates) and i couldnt agree with him more.About Walcott he said “hes thick” … All in all my emirates visit was amazing but my concern as a fan for the club are still the same, and i was glad that US as fans are right in critising wenger and even it is shared by our X Gooner players. One last good news – he also said that Tony Adams cant wait to come back to Arsenal ( in a managers role or somehow in some form of coaching with arsenal) I myself asked him whether Lee dixon would love to come back to arsenal, he said he wouldnt but if Tony Adams comes as a coach then Dixon would play active role and would love to join his managerial team.Gooner 4 life !
