Arsenal are looking to start off a bidding war between German club Schalke and Russian Mega-rich side Anzhi for Andrey Arshavin, according to reports.

Arshavin has recently announced that he will not remain a bench warmer for the club and has seen his amount of first-team starts dwindling this season, with his performances being criticized by the media and Arsenal fans.

On his day Arshavin can be a brilliant player and there is no doubt the man has ability. However, the problem the fans currently have is that most have lost faith in the Russian’s ability because we simply don’t see enough of it. Andrey Arshavin himself recently admitted:

‘Speaking honestly I think my performances for Arsenal have been average, I’ve done some good things but don’t assess my game on goals or assists – I look at the whole picture.

‘Normally when I’m on the pitch I take control of a game but I haven’t really done that here. I’m an extra tool in the team rather than the main one, so it’s been difficult.’

It is reported that Schalke have already declared their interest in the 30-year-old Arsenal forward and look keen to start the bidding war come January, but they will face stiff competition from Anzhi, who are prepared to outbid anyone who puts in an offer for the player.

Arshavin still remains Arsenal’s most expensive signing at £15 million from Zenit St Petersburg in 2009 and Arsene Wenger will surely attempt to recoup some if not all of that money, if he decides to sell him.

In my opinion, i think it’s best to try and sell Arshavin while clubs are interested in him, and if we can make a little money from his departure then so be it.
