While many readers were blasting and telling me that I was talking out of my ARSEnal – following my views on George Graham’s latest comments about Arshavin – you’ll be surprised to know that Arsene Wenger recently took a similar route to mine on the matter.

After hearing (or reading) Graham’s comments on Arshavin yesterday, where the former Gunners boss claimed the 30-year-old Russian was a ‘poor buy’ and is no longer committed to the north London club, Wenger hit back and defended Arshavin, insisting the winger still has a big future at Arsenal and will prove his doubters wrong in the upcoming months.

The Frenchman said:

‘You would not be surprised that I disagree with that [George Graham’s comments]. That is his opinion. I think he has been great for us and he will still be great in the coming months.’

‘He is a great player and you have to give him credit for that. He stands up for his performances. I personally respect him highly and I think he’s a great player.’

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane also had a pop at Andrey, suggesting he had a poor performance against Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday night. However, Wenger was quick to dismiss this claim:

‘I like Andrey because he has a great attitude. It was a difficult game for him on Wednesday and for all the players who played up front because Marseille defended, they played for a point.’

‘There was not a lot of space for the strikers and as long as you don’t find an opening they will not come out, and that is what happened in the game.’
