Thomas Vermaelen has handed Arsenal a huge boost by declaring himself fit for the game tomorrow against Chelsea.
Vermaelen played his first game in 2 months for Arsenal in the Carling Cup on Tuesday after recovering from a knee injury
The question is, given that Vermaelen has only just recovered from his injury, should he be risked against Chelsea or should we stick with the pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker? Who have both been improving with every game. I am not suggesting that Vermaelen needs to prove himself to get back into the squad, I just feel it will benefit him and the club if he continues his fitness training and then comes back in a less demanding game.
Thomas Vermaelen said after the Bolton game:
‘It was great to be back and to get time on the pitch. I felt fresh, I’m OK and am available for Saturday. I trained on Monday with the team and I felt good straight away. If I come back from injury after a long time I don’t believe in coming back and getting rhythm.’
I would hate to see Vermaelen start against Chelsea tomorrow because I fear he could suffer another setback. Given the fact he cramped up in the game on Tuesday, I think it would be better for him to rest up for the weekend, especially given that we have Marseille on Tuesday.

i think he should play left back if anything.. and if djourou plays right back, it would give all back 4 a good defensive mindset.

The Verminator should be kept for tuesday’s game. No need to destroy the promising partnership of per with koscienly yet, not against chelsea. My worry is djorou at right back.
