Is anyone else angry with Manu Petit?

Like any objective intelligent Arsenal fan I am aware that we have a few issues to address, but I don’t think booting the manger that has done so much for us out is the answer, but that is a whole different debate. However, what does get me irate is certain ex-players who feel they have the right to stick the boot in.

We have so many legends that make constructive, yet supportive comments when asked, such as Dixon, Winterburn and Keown, all of whom recognise that they owe so much to Wenger. And then we have churlish bitter idiots like Manu Petit.

He told L’Equipe:

‘The defeat in the final of the League Cup has been devastating.

‘The club is in a transitional phase. It is also at a crossroads, sporting and economically. If he continues to sell its best players, it’s dead. I can understand that Arsenal is in line with an economic logic, but to drop Fabregas and Nasri is a disaster, especially for the players who remain. Arsenal cannot afford to lose such elements and show that it has no further ambition.

‘Previously, the players left at the end of their career: Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires and myself [all left]. Today Fabregas and Nasri left when they were at the top. It’s very disturbing.’

Well thanks for being so constructive Manu, but I would like to pick up on a few points and add some personal observations as well.

1) Arsenal FC will never be dead because we have 125 years of heritage, passion and tradition behind us and no star player leaving will ever cause the demise of this great institution.

2) Losing Fabregas is a huge set back but we respect him for what he did for our club and his reasons for leaving. He gave us many incredible years before leaving for Barcelona, unlike yourself who gave us 3 and only one was special. You, like your compatriot Nasri, were an ingrate who went for the money after Wenger had made you a star. Perhaps Cesc will manage more than the 23 games and one pathetic season at the Camp Nou that you managed?

3) Arsene Wenger gave you your first break at Monaco as a defender and then in 1997 signed you for our great institution. If this was not enough he converted you into a midfield player where you had never played previously, which enabled you to win the League and FA Cup double and then a World Cup in your first year in that new position.

Lol turned into a bit of a personal attack but made for some good reading. I dont think we should immediately attack anyone who makes criticisms of the team/management. The management needs to be critical and thorough in their analysis of performances, especially now. We need to iron out flaws and identify weaknesses in the squad before january. If we dont make any top quality signings in january then our season is over. I’d like to see wenger blow the rest of his transfer budget on securing eden hazard, he is fast, strong and his tendency to power into the box like gerrard & lampard will complement our passing style and mix up our attack nicely. Gotze would be a good signing too but i think he will be at dortmund for a while at least.

Naw – looks like you are the only one who has an issue here.

really? ithink you’ll find thier are still more pro wenger supporters then the tossers who think they know it all, and by sacking wenger and think spending millions upon millions will make us a better team

  • reece says:

people slate nasri for leaving, but why wouldn’t he go to a team that’ll pay 60k more than we would and is a better team (they are top of the table atm and won the fa cup last year).

    • demongooner says:

yet over 30 years that all they’ve done, one fa cup and top of the league in october don’t make you a better team just as much as a team who’s won so much more like arsenal have in 30 years, does it mean we are a worse team.
the difference is city have got billions to spend, and at the moment thats all well and great, but when the owner wants to sell or wants his money back what then?,like chelsea if the owner calls in his debts then city could be in bigger trouble then ever before.
look at tevez he’s paid so much money no one wants to sign him,man city can pay the wages but thier may come a time when they can’t sell players because off the demands the players will have.

Thanks for the comments guys. I did write tis when I was angry and ust feel that if ex players cannot be constructrive then they should say nothing.

AW made Petit a worls star and he has dome same with so many, some of them such as Sagna, RVO and JW19 still in our ranks.

    Keep the faith

Well, I was very fortunate to meet Petit and have a long conversation with him last month. And I can tell you categorically that he is still a fan of Arsenal and doesn’t miss a single game. He was as disappointed as I was the day we lost to Liverpool (which was the day we spoke). I think I have a lot of time for him, and while we don’t always agree with people and their assesments, I really don;t think he’s said the unimaginable or something totally ridiculous
