Why Wenger should heed Lee Chung-Yong’s words over this man

Bolton’s Lee Chung-Yong has urged Arsene Wenger to play South Korean team-mate Park Chu-Young more often in order to get the best out of the forward.

Lee Chung-Yong, who joined the Trotters in August 2009, has since become an intricate part of the Bolton line-up and believes Arsenal forward Park Chu-Young needs to be playing regularly if he is to realize his full potential in the Premier League.

Playing regular first-team football for Bolton since his arrival enabled Lee to settle rapidly and his impressive performances during the latter half of his debut campaign helped him win the club’s Player of the Year award.

Lee, who missed Bolton’s trip to Arsenal on Saturday due to a broken leg, is well aware of how difficult it is to adapt to the Premier league and is concerned for his international compatriot.

Chu-Young, who made his debut for Arsenal in last week’s 3-1 Carling Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town, is prepared to wait for his chance at the Emirates. However, Lee thinks Wenger will have a better player on his hands if he features regularly for the Gunners.

Lee Chung-Yong told Bolton News:

‘It was hard at first to play in the Premier League but I was lucky to play every single match and that helped me adapt and get used to my new team-mates.’

‘Chu-Young will need to do the same if he is to settle quickly.’

In my opinion, Park will have to play more games as Chung-Yong suggests in order to adapt to the English game, as we all know how foreign players find it difficult to acclimatize to the physical and fast paced Premier League – we might as well give him the chance to get used to it in the early stages of the campaign, rather than when we are in the thick of it.

With Walcott sustaining a slight knock to his knee, it would be a good idea to let Park start against Olympiacos tomorrow night in the Champions League, as he is equally quick and is able to stay on the shoulders of defenders and leave them trailing in his wake.

This will also give Wenger a chance to rest Walcott for Sunday’s derby match against Spurs, if he is able to recover in time of course.

Another good reason to let the South Korean play is to give players like Arshavin a challenge for his place and possibly reignite that flare and desire back into the Russian.

There are a lot of games during the season and Wenger should think about letting Park play in some of the more challenging games in order for him to adapt. There is no point of playing him in just the minor cup games, especially against lower opposition, as he won’t get the full physical experience of the English game.

using c.y park at the moment will be of immence help to arsenal as he have goal scoring ability. Using him now also ensures rapid adaptation to the premiership before the going gets tough as the season goes to an ending.

AW can never learn from his mistake, reason he bought the guy i don’t know?Diarra left because of this reason.

  • kiki says:

dats true diarra left cuz of dat, i know that he is better than theo but i want to tell u guys, that wenger knows he is better than theo nd wants to play him but he is scared that when theo gets benched in park’s favour for most of the season, theo would want to use that as an excuse to quit the arsenal. Thats why wenger is carefull in his dealings.

I think Wenger still has a problem using the players he has…. This continues to frustrate those being under-utilized (Park, Benayoun, Chamak) while tearing those that have been over-utilized (wilshire, Vamaelen). As a result the squad will always seem imbalanced and so dependent on individuals rather than TEAMWORK.

  • This is from UEFA’s own rules .Article 70 Ordinary enforcement of suonsneisps1 A team manager/coach who is suspended from carrying out his function mayfollow the match for which he is suspended from the stands only. He may not enterin the dressing room, tunnel or technical area before or during the match, nor mayhe communicate with his team.2 Suspensions imposed on a player/coach apply to both his capacity as a player andas a coach.3 If a player who has been suspended for a minimum of three matches takes on therole of an official or manager/coach, any remaining part of the suspension shall beserved in this new capacity, subject to the provisions of Article 72 of the presentregulations. At no point did we see AW speak to the team in which case the above rules would support Arsenal’s claim that they were doing as they had been told. 0 0
