‘I will never go back to Arsenal’

The man who once described himself as ‘one of the best strikers in European football’, Nicklas Bendtner spent the summer telling everyone, who he could force to listen, that he was wanted by many clubs and was apparently in talks with them about a big move away from the Emirates.

Well, he finally got the move that ‘one of the best strikers in European football’ deserved; he ended up sealing a season-long loan to Sunderland.

Almost immediately after signing for the Black Cats, the 23-year-old opted to affectively end his career at Arsenal, with a rant that is sure to leave him further out-of favour with Arsene Wenger and the fans, the ones he has left at Arsenal by declaring that he will never return to north London club:

‘I will never go back to Arsenal.’

‘If I can have it my way, I will never play for them again.’

Bendtner, who only managed to start 3 Premier League matches last season, believes he was never given a fair chance by Wenger after writing off his Aston Martin in September 2009.

‘That is over one-and-a-half years with no real chance to prove myself. After my car accident I never really got the chance to earn a spot in the first team.’

The accident happened on the A1 on his way home after a training session, where it appeared he lost control and collided with a tree. He missed the following Arsenal game, which was a Champions League fixture, due to minor injuries to his shoulder and knee.

Now you’ll be forgiven for thinking that the Dane was a little hard done by. However, if you can recall not only 4 months ago prior to his accident, the forward was pictured being escorted out of a nightclub following Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to Manchester United in the Champions League.

Arsenal FC is a club that prides itself on its players being kept out of the tabloids and to set an example off the pitch, so I think Wenger gave him a warning after ‘trouser-gate’ and his car accident and had to set an example to the other players.

Nonetheless, Bendtner is looking forward to playing for Sunderland and reiterated that he’ll not return to Arsenal after his loan deal expires:

‘I am really looking forward to playing for Sunderland and then we will see next summer. I will find a new club – but I will not go back to Arsenal, that’s for sure.’

Personally, I am fed up with Bendtner’s attitude towards the club that has stood by him through these incidents. The fact that he has been trying to force a move away from the Emirates doesn’t bother me, I have on many occasions offered my services to help him pack his bags and take him to the airport. However, my offers have fallen on deaf ears. So I have decided to change my approach with Bendtner. I no longer offer him my services to help him pack and leave because he has already gone. But I plead with Wenger and the Arsenal board to draw up a contract that states that the striker never comes back and play for Arsenal again.
