FC Lorient manager Christian Gourcuff believes the philosophy used at the Ligue 1 side has helped them secure loan deals from Arsenal because the loanees are able to experience the same style of football.

Lorient have taken the likes of Francis Coquelin, Gilles Sunu and Joel Campbell on short-term deals in recent seasons.

But Gourcuff claims there is no special link between the two clubs, with the loan deals and the sale of Laurent Koscielny to the Gunners being a result of hard work by both sides.

However, Gourcuff is of the opinion that Lorient are a favourable option for Arsene Wenger when loaning out players because their passing game is similar to that embraced at Arsenal.

He told France Football:

‘There is no formal understanding.’

‘I don’t think our chairman knows the London officials very well, he just does business with them closer.’

‘Personally, I have no privileged relationship with Arsene Wenger. At one point we didn’t speak on the phone for a whole year. However, obviously we share the same football philosophy and that helps to bring you closer.’

‘Arsene knows how we work so we are able to get a few players that we maybe wouldn’t otherwise be able to get.’
