Here are 10 things you should know about Arsenal’s new signing Andre Santos:

1. Andre Santos was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He started his youth career at Figueirense where he went on to sign his first professional contract.

2. While playing for Figueirense, Santos was used as a left winger. He made his full debut for the squad in July 2003.

3. Having spent the majority of 2005 and 2006 on loan at Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro, Santos finally sealed a deal to Corinthians in 2008.

4. It was at Corinthians that Andre Santos was given the role as an attacking left-back – this is the role that he would go on to have a great success in.

5. His awards during his time at Corinthians included the Brazilian Serie B, Copa Do Brasil and Campeonato Paulista. His Corinthians career was to be short lived though after moving to Fenerbahçe the following season.

Let’s take a look at the man in action:

6. Signing for Fenerbahçe on the 20th of July 2009, Santos faced tough competition for his position from another man – Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos. It was a battle that Santos won and, shortly after, Carlos moved to Santos’ former club Corinthians.

7. During his two season stay at Fenerbahçe, Santos went on to play 52 games, scoring 10 goals along the way.

8. Many Arsenal fans will recall that Fenerbahçe were removed from the UEFA Champions League recently. However, they may not be aware that Fenerbahçe were also relegated amongst details of match fixing. Andre Santos has stated that his decision to leave the Turkish outfit had nothing to do with the scandal and that he was leaving a club he had a lot of fond memories of. He may return to his former club later on in his career.

9. It was finally announced that he had signed for Arsenal on the summer transfer deadline day (August 31st) and was given the no.11 shirt.

10. Upon signing for Arsenal, Santos stated: ‘I am delighted to have signed for Arsenal. It was one of my dreams to play for a major European football club and I have accomplished this. I am very happy to be part of this team. All the Brazilians who came to this club spoke wonders about it and I am delighted to be part of the Arsenal family.’
