Why this Cesc saga has to end one way or the other

According to goalkeeper Victor Valdes, Barcelona players expect to see Cesc Fabregas joining them very soon (here we go again).

The Spanish giants have seen their latest bid, a reported £29 million plus £6 million add-ons, turned down by Arsenal. However, the Barca shot-stopper remains adamant that a deal will be struck before the month ends.

The 29-year-old Spaniard was quoted in The People today saying:

‘We expect to see Cesc in the Barca dressing-room soon. The players want him to come because he is a big friend and an extraordinary footballer.’

Fabregas did not appear in any of Arsenal’s pre-season friendlies and may miss the opening Premier League game next week against Newcastle because of an ‘injury’.

If we are to believe with what we read in the papers, hear on the radio and see on TV, then Cesc looks highly likely to be heading out of the Emirates exit doors this summer. Personally, I couldn’t care less because this situation is starting to p*** me off now, as it has been dragging on for almost two years.

However, a part of me still thinks that a deal won’t be struck this month, meaning the Spaniard will be forced to stay another year. I don’t want this to happen though, as I want players at the club who are committed to the cause, not dreaming about the sandy beaches in Spain which Fabregas appears to be doing these days.

I (and I’m guessing a lot of you reading this) hope that this issue is resolved as soon as possible so that we can all move on and focus on the season ahead without any distractions.

I think Barca can act more honorably than they have so far. Emotions aside though, they are just negotiating tough. They are hoping that we cave at end ofnthe transfer window and sell below value, while unsettling the player hoping that Cesc himself will make noises for the exit, further greasing the gears. Though shitty in the eyes of an Arsenal fan, Barca is being rude and shrewd.

We have only ourselves to blame for being in this situation. It was Arsenal FC that opened the door to a Cesc sale this window. As for adding reinforcements to strengthen the team or just to replace stars who may leave, we could have been doing this business at the beginning of the window. Arsenal said we had a transfer kitty. That kitty is not dependent on sales of players. We should not have to sell someone to buy someone. If we did, we would just be standing still or regressing, certainly not improving the team. Losing Clichy and signing Jenkinson is not strengthening the team. Losing Bendtner possibly and moving Chamahk up the depth chart is not strengtheningthe team.

Losing Ces or Nasri and adding Mata would not be strengthening the team (but I understand why it must happen)

In the end, this is one off season where Wenger cannot presume not to splash any cash and get by with the youth project. If we lose Cesc and / or Nasri and the replacements are Wilshere and Ramsey, I will cheer for them but will be very sad inside for the lack of ambition shown.

The season is now upon us! Let us see if there is still any Wenger magic to be weaved! Alas, I can only see “star of the future signings” on the horizon sadly…

I thought Barca had been given a final date?
And after that date Cesc should be sold to anyone else outside PL who are interested.
We cant start the season with Cesc again, as his head is not there, and he will only cost us again if we have to play Barca.
Cess is a traitor now, what ever else he has done for AFC, which is not that much when you look at it carefully.
Time to move on, else we will be stuck in this rut for another 3 seasons.

@Para, the Arsenal board are bottlers, just like the team. They have no balls to issue a deadline to Barca, or even Fabregas. They do not know that sometimes you have to forget about class and play hardball. Fabregas should be stripped of the captaincy and made to fight for his jersey, that has been my opinion since last summer…..but i doubt they are gonna do that.

Barcelona, as per usual, have got exactly what they wanted. The board and the players have obviously been tapping fabregas up for quite some time now. With all the speculation, they’ve managed to unsettle not only fabregas, but the whole club and they’ve managed to screw up our summer transfer window by not coughing up nearly enough money to allow them to agree terms. What were left with is a player who wants to leave, unsettling the other players and screwing up our transfer plans. Barcelona think that, by doing this, we will cut our losses and accept a cruddy bid just to offload him & the trouble he’s caused. Lets be honest, £40mil for a player of fabregas’ calibre is a pretty good and fair deal, yet barca fail to meet the asking price. Probably out of principle. If andy carroll cost liverpool £35mil cos hes english, then £40mil isnt alot to ask for one of the best young talents in the workd, not to mention hes had over 200 appearances for arsenal, its not exactly as if he needs much development! Barcelona are a disgrace to the game. They have proven that you can succeed by breaking rules & using under-handed tactics. I say give barcelona 24hours to come up with the money and then sell him to the highest bidder. They’ll soon stump up the cash. That way, we can focus on ARSENAL FC, the signings we want to make this summer & appoint a new, dedicated skipper that’ll motivate the team Its time to stop p**sing about. We give too much respect to clubs who dont deserve it.
Fabregas is a great player, but this situation takes the p***, he’s making the team weaker and needs to leave so we can strengthen our team and build for next season. Same goes for Nasri, we dont want another saga this time next year. Grow some balls wenger and tell both fabregas & barca to pay up or f*** off. Oh an definitely cup-tie fabregas. Its no less than what barca would do for us.

All this crazy talk about selling Fabregas to the highest bidder is beginning to get on my wick.
Professional footballers are no longer slaves and reserve the right to choose their employer.
Even the thickest Gooner must realise by now that Cesc will sign for Barcelona or remain at Arsenal for the rest of his present contract. No other outlook is possible for him so stop this silly conjecture once and for all.

  • If all these barca players want him so bad surely from all the money they earn and even more so from the trophy’s and bonuses that follow its chump change!

Cesc wants out hten he should also stump up the cash he choose to join us from barca and that’s why they dont want to pay us the 40 million. am getting sick of this but we should not let me go for 1 euro less than what we asked we dont need the money and if he wants out so bad they it should be to the highest bidder!

  • Davepain says:

Nicky, you think fabregas would have a choice if arsene chucked him in the reserve team and stripped him of the captaincy? He is not 100% focused on arsenal, therefore a liability to the team. You and alot of footballers forget that the players are employed by the club and its the clubs responsibilty to look out for the welfare of the team and the staff. If fabregas is as gash as he was last year and barca dont meet the asking price then whats stopping arsenal from sticking him on the transfer list?
Arsenal have given barcelona the opportunity to buy him at a vastly reduced price considering the current market. I dont think we should continue to be so submissive

  • Aussie Jack says:

It`s the general concsensus of opinion that Fabregas would be of no value were he to stay at Arsenal. He knows the score, it`s up to him to talk with his new master`s and convince them to table an acceptable deal, plus throwing in a few million of his own money.
