Wenger’s resignation wouldn’t be a lifeline

The Sunday derby between Man United and Arsenal was very humiliating and sad to see as a Gooner.

The crisis at the Emirates has degenerated into something most Arsenal fans never contemplated. The goings-on at the club are actually far beyond what fans can see – a situation where Wenger’s men march on to the pitch with little or no confidence of a victory. This is evidenced by the manner in which RVP took the spot kick that would have marked the turning point of the weekend derby. Though, the facts on ground prior to the game suggested that the home side would still have been triumphant at the end of 90 minutes.

The question is – can this United score eight against the supposed weakest team in the Premier League (QPR or Norwich City), or even a Leyton Orient side? If the answer to this question is NO, then my earlier statement that the goings-on at the club are actually far beyond what fans can see holds. A score-line of this magnitude is not only a source of humiliation to Arsenal and its fans around the globe, but unhealthy for the Premier League, acclaimed to be the most interesting and toughest league in the world. Even Barca and Almeria rarely ends that way!

But the really difficult situation is Arsene’s dogged Philosophy, which I personally feel he has pushed too far. This may have worked when the Abramovichs’ of this world were not interested in investing in the round-leather game, but politics; when the Arabs from the Middle-East had not ventured into acquiring Western companies. Wenger failed to realize that times have changed. He had several opportunities to improve his squad, but never did! I strongly believe that the worst is yet to come should he not change his ways.

It’s sad to learn that Arsenal had already concluded arrangements to refund money spent by fans to witness a monumental disgrace in Manchester. The same money which the board cherish more than trophies, which saw the greedy board of directors increase the price of season tickets shortly after a fruitless 2010/2011 campaign.

Football analysts and several Arsenal fans alike have been calling for Arsene’s head. Truly, at this point, Arsene’s resignation would not be a lifeline for the club. I strongly feel that the Frenchman’s departure would only turn this team to another Leeds United.

The current situation is so bad that the purchase of six players in the class of Juan Mata could not get the north London club out of the woods. Rather, figures and models in the class of Kaka and the Wesley Sneijder’s of this world can serve as a catalyst that would engender the transformation process.

  • Dave Seager says:

Mate this article is negative and fundamentally flawed. The same team that was so low on confidence as to come from behind and beat the 4th best team in Italy a few adys earlier.
Ill discipline of senior players Gervinho and Song let Wenger down and not his philosphy. Sagna is the best right back in the world, TV5 our best central defender and JW would grace any team in Europe. I guess Wenger should have known he would be without all 5 of these players who were all fit and avaialble a week before the season, along with Diaby?

Yeah Dave, blame everybody except wenger.

  • Chukwuma Echezona says:
