The ‘super quality’ signing Wenger was on about?

So Arsene Wenger finally sealed the services of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Southampton, in a deal reportedly worth £12 million – which could later rise to £15 million – the ‘super quality’ signing Mr. Wenger spoke of a few days ago perhaps?

Over the weekend, the Frenchman stated:

‘We want to add not quality, but super quality. We hope to give you some good news soon. Next week, something might happen.’

To be honest, I thought Wenger was horsing around when he said this, but it seems he has kept his word…well to a degree.

The 17-year-old, who bagged 9 goals and 8 assists in 33 appearances for Southampton last season, is regarded as one of England’s promising youngsters and had this to say after signing a long-term contract at the Emirates:

‘I’m so excited to be joining Arsenal. It’s a fantastic club and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity of playing football at the highest level.’

‘Arsenal have a great manager in Arsene Wenger, top quality players and an attractive style of play. These were all important factors in me choosing to sign for Arsenal.’

‘I’m proud to be joining Arsenal, but I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Southampton for their help and support during the early part of my career, for which I will always be grateful.’

‘I’m now looking forward to meeting all my new team mates and giving absolutely everything in an Arsenal shirt.’

Chamberlain has the ability and potential to succeed at Arsenal, but is he a ‘super quality’ signing? Not in my book (sorry guys, but he isn’t). Don’t’ get me wrong, he is a good buy and one which may appease the fans, but he is not of super standards that Wenger claimed he would bring in.

The England Under-21 international is Wenger’s third acquisition this summer and hopefully not his last. I reckon he will sign another player before the window closes at the end of the month (hopefully a much needed centre-back). However, I believe Chamberlain is the player that Wenger was alluding to over the weekend, he must have been.

I really don’t mind that we have signed the former Southampton winger; in fact, I welcome him to the club and wish him the best. However, if he is to be our biggest and last buy this summer, then Wenger must seriously revise this.

im shocked aswell, wenger not willing to pay for a good defender but willing to pay 15 mill on a kid, its a bit crazy but then only time will tell, i know this kid is really really gud but its not what we really need right now, we need a defender, were losing games because we cant DEFEND, maybe someone should email and tell wenger that, we have plenty of attacking options. he really needs to buy gary cahill or per mertasacker. UP GUNNERS

Pain and more pain-in fact its utter desperation.
You cant imagine how Arsenalhas declined. We are so poor its shameful. Outplayed by Bocca Juniors in our home ground. The same team was thrashed by PSG and held by Milkmen that is NY redbulls but the performance against Benfica was shocking. Absolutely pants.

Everytime I see or reminded old days when we used to hit Boro, Everton and Reading 6/7-0 seems like reading ancient history.

I am so nostalgic I cant even watch old games as I get too sad to watch. All we need is sell Ashavin, Nassri and Fabregas. Then Cahill and Samba/Martesacker along with Joe Barton plus walliams from Shaktar Donesk would bolster our team. Also another gk to give Wojiesc competition would be welcome as Fabianski is pants.

This is what our club needs to compete otherwise we are done this season.

at fist it was said 6 mill and 6 mill in add ons.

i think its more likelt that its 6 mill and 6 in add ons

then wenger given in 15 mill up front for a player that wanted to leave.

Great signing. Very happy. He’s going to be epic for us. I expect another defender to be signed very soon, and maybe a midfielder if fab or nasri leave. That’ll do I reckon. August is going to be tough for us, but I still think that this season could be a good one. Let’s get behind the team and support the players and the manager.
