Arsenal to replace Nasri with this Marseille midfielder?

Another player who has recently come into Arsenal’s spotlight is 31-year-old Lucho Gonzalez of Marseille, according to sources in France.

Gonzalez is under contract at OM until 2013, but has already been linked with a summer switch to Roma, Malaga and now Arsenal. However, Gonzalez’s wages could prove to be a stumbling block for the Gunners. The Argentine refuses to take a pay cut, if he were to leave the French club this summer – he is reportedly earning £2 million-a-year – not a lot considering other players salaries.

The player’s agent, Federico Simonian, recently told RMC Sport of the interest in his client:

‘I will be in France on Tuesday to discuss the sale.’

‘I have talked to the clubs concerned and we will decide what is best for the player. At the moment the clubs involved are English, Spanish and Italian.’

We all know that Arsenal tend to favour younger players and so it surprises me that we have been linked with a player over the age of 30, especially considering that we are a club building to win the Premier League and for the future.

I am not saying that having experience in our side is a bad thing; fact is we could do with some right now. However, I would have thought that Arsenal would be targeting players between the ages of 26-29, especially if you want more than 2 seasons out of a player.

Currently, we are left with the knowledge that two players (at least) are going to be leaving the club this summer, and that in itself will cause a huge amount of rumours to fly around the place.

But at the end of the day there is only one man currently aware of who we are going for this summer, and he likes to keep his cards as close to his chest as possible, that man is Arsene Wenger.
