With Arsenal being linked with Lazio’s Mauro Zarate, we here at Gunnersphere.com thought it only right to give you the low down on the man.

So without further-ado, here are 10 things you should know about Arsenal target Mauro Zarate:

1. Mauro Zarate is a 24-year-old Argentinean striker who currently plays for Lazio, where he has been since 2008.

2. Some may recall that Zarate has already had a brief stay in the Premier League with Birmingham City in 2008, where he made 14 appearances scoring 4 goals.

3. Zarate followed in the footsteps of his father Sergio, who was a professional footballer who played for A.C Ancona. His father now acts as his son’s agent.

4. Although Zarate is Argentinean his mother is Italian and is currently debating whether he should attempt to play for Argentina or Italy.

5. His career with Lazio is not as glittered with goals as we would like to be, scoring just 25 goals in 103 appearances for the Serie A outfit. However, during this time, he has been loaned out to Birmingham City.

Let’s take a look at Zarate in action:

6. The Argentine is known for his pace, dribbling skills, eye for goal and the ability to outthink defenders.

7. He is no stranger to controversy. Back in March 2010, Zarate was caught on camera giving a ‘fascist salute’ while watching Lazio lose to Bari with a group of fans. The excuse given by his agent was that he ‘didn’t know the significance of his gesture’ and did not know who Adolf Hitler or Benito Mussolini were. An excuse that makes me laugh to this day.

8. It has been widely reported that Arsenal are in talks with Lazio about signing the youngster, who has been told by the Italian club to find another employer as he does not feature in there plans for the upcoming season.

9. Mauro Zarate has fallen down the pecking order at Lazio after they recently signed Djibril Cisse and Miroslav Klose.

10. Valued by Lazio at €18 million, Arsenal are reportedly aiming to tempt Lazio with a fee of around the €12 million mark.

Even if I am Moroccan, I can say that Chamakh is not a good forward for Arsenal. This player can be a good cover if RVP is injured. better than Chamakh.
if you are saying that The Argentine is known for his pace, dribbling skills, eye for goal and the ability to outthink defenders. Well, We should go for him.
By the way, I really believe that Jadson and Zarate are deals done but we are waiting samir’s money to be in the bank…

I’m a huge fan of Zarate’s first team here in Argentina, Vélez Sarfield. One comment about this article. Sergio Zarate is NOT his father, is his brother, the oldest of 5 brothers and 4 of them played on profesionals teams here in Argentina, Spain and México. Besides this, I think Mauro is a great player and he’ll fit perfectly fine in Arsenal’s team.
