Theo Walcott has tipped Arsenal youngster Ryo Miyaichi to become a future star at the Emirates.

The 19-year-old was acquired by the Gunners last January, but due to work permit issues, the Japanese ace was sent out on loan to Dutch outfit Feyenoord, where he impressed.

Since returning from the Eredivisie, Miyaichi has been training with the Arsenal first-team and even managed to participate in both of the clubs pre-season games in Asia last week.

His performances in Holland and Asia have led many to believe that the youngster is ready to make an impression at the Emirates this season, none more so than team-mate Theo Walcott.

The 22-year-old England international recently stated:

‘He wants to be his own player, he is a confident lad and will hopefully have a good career at Arsenal.’

‘He has got a few step overs more than me – I don’t do any! That is maybe something I could bring into my game.’

In my opinion, Miyaichi has a great future ahead of him.

The Japanese starlet impressed during his loan spell with Feyenoord last season, so much so that the media over there labelled him ‘Ryodinho’ after comparisons to Brazilian legend Ronaldinho. The youngster has also been branded the Japanese Messi, which speaks volumes as well.

I managed to see Arsenal’s pre-season games in Asia last week, where Miyaichi played apart in both matches, and I must say that the kid looked exceptional.

He showcased his skill, blistering pace and technical ability, which rattled the full-back and got the crowd excited. Granted, they were only pre-season games, but the quality was there to be seen.

Let’s just hope that his work permit issues are sorted out so we can see him do the business in the Premier league this season.

This is highly disappointing comment from Walcott and a bit disappointing for Arsenal. The fact that Theo is 22 and has no step-overs in his game is a sad fact. You’d think a top club like Arsenal would have someone, ANYONE, on the coaching staff that would have suggested this by now. Especially when game after game you see him run directly into defenders. Maybe the direct approach doesn’t always work, even when having amazing speed. Disappointing and telling stuff from the man’s mouth.
