Former A.C Milan forward Dejan Savicevic believes Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is not as strong as Serie A duo Javier Pastore and Marek Hamsik.

Savicevic, who lifted three Serie A titles and a Champions League Cup with Milan, reckons the 24-year-old Spaniard, regarded as one of the best creators in the game, is behind Palermo’s Pastore and Hamsik in the midfielder category because he lacks pace.

The ex-San Siro star told Radio Sportiva:

‘Fabregas? For me, Pastore and Hamsik are stronger players.’

‘Fabregas is a good midfielder, but he does not have the change of pace.’

Personally, I’m not sure whether I agree with Savicevic’s claims that Fabregas is inferior to both Pastore and Hamsik.

Don’t get me wrong, both Serie A stars possess great technique, skill and the ability to create, but in my opinion, they play in the worst football league in the world. I do not doubt their abilities, in fact, I am a huge fan of Hamsik and hope one day that he becomes a Gunner, but the Italian league is played at a much slower tempo and is not as competitive as it is over here.

I agree that Fabregas isn’t the fastest midfielder out there, but his vision and creativity makes up for this minor flaw. If he were to go to Italy, then he would be Serie A’s best player.

Savicevic is entitled to his opinion, but to claim that Fabregas is not as strong as both Pastore and Hamsik is a little unfair and unjustified, especially when both stars play in the poorest league in the world.

I agree, although now that there is a high chance Cesc will move to Barca I just hope we can bring in Hamsik, Mata or Hazard in his place. Maybe two from the list as apparently there’s a lot of cash available to spend already.

There is nothing wrong with his turn of pace. In fact, he has very quick acceleration.

  • Ben says:

So because he doesn’t have “The change of pace” he is behind them two? gimmie a break your talking about a single midfielder who changes the way a team play in the premiership when he is on the pitch and in good form. Should stop eating that pasta for breakfast, lunch and dinner it causes you to loose your marbles.

    what a dumb opinion.

just coz he aint got pace his not good ?

then i take it walcott must be the best player in the world.

fabrigas dosnt need alot of pace in his position
i have seen hamsik and pastore and both of them cant pass or are as good as fab is in the creative department.

pastore has had one good season.
and his worth 50 mill now ? hmmmmmmmmmmm

So Tony Merakli questions this guy’s opinion because apparently Cesc doesnt have pace, but Tony makes his argument a piece of shit when he says, “in my opinion, they play in the worst football league in the world.” Really now. Worse than the dutch or japanese or peruvian leagues. Dumbass…

    • Tony Merakli says:

I didnt question the guy’s opinion, I actually stated: ‘Savicevic is entitled to his opinion’.

How can he compare two players that play in Italy to one that plays in England? It’s flawed.

Oh, and the Italian League is the worst ‘big’ league in the world (yes worst than the Dutch) – so your comment is pointless and you look like the Dumbass mate.

      Cheers
