Earlier this week, Arsene Wenger told the press:
‘I don’t think we are weak defensively, but we are an offensive team. Sometimes that exposes our defenders a bit more than other teams.’
I’m sorry to say this but he’s wrong.
Last season we were weak defensively. We made too many mistakes at the back and conceded some stupid goals. Hopefully we have resolved the keeper situation now with the emergence of Szczesny, who actually wants to play for the club and is good as well.
The defence really needs a kick this season, and I still feel we desperately need to bring in the likes of Gary Cahill, Chris Samba, or both if possible. Thomas Vermaelen is back from injury which is great to sees and actually captained the side on Wednesday’s outing against Malaysia XI. There are rumours flying around that the Belgian international will actually play at left-back this season. However, this remains to be seen. We should also not forget youngster Carl Jenkinson, who we brought in fro Charlton. The 19-year-old also took part in Wednesday’s game in the Far East and, quite frankly, performed pretty well.
I believe our midfield looks alright to be honest; assuming that we keep Nasri and Fabregas. If we lose both, then we will need to replace both of them.
Strikers. I think we are good in this department as well, I just hope that RVP manages to stay fit. I like the signing of Gervinho, as I think he will be a great player for the club.
Wenger had the following to say about Arsenal’s new front-man:
‘He has qualities that are interesting, He has good movement off the ball, he is very quick. He can play up front, on the left or right, He can score goals, can provide and had the best assists in the French league last year. I think he can be a great contribution to the offensive efficiency of the team.’
He added:
‘He has qualities like Theo Walcott. They have good movement. Theo can play on the left, right and up front. He has a similar type of pace and finishing.’
All in all, as most Arsenal fans will agree, our week point is our defence & possibly our keeper situation.
Let’s hope that this season we can change that and, with 5-6 weeks left to go until the new campaign begins, lets try and nab a couple more players to strengthen our squad.

The achilles heel is Wenger. The reason the defence looks week is because of his tactics.
Also the board needs to be looked at, we know that Wenger has asked the board to buy 7 players so far this summer. Friedl, Jenkinson, Gervinho, Jones, Downing, Alvarez and Larsson. So far they have managed to bring in one of them and supposedly another one is on his way after “a regulatory process” who has ever heard of that before?
wenger seems to find reasons for our shit defense…every reason except the obvious!…..the personnel are NOT good enough. Even TV5 for me isnt a great centre back, he is however a superb defender and could even be a defensive midfield destroyer. Squillacci is a joke, kos is improving ,has good attitude but is rash and not strong enough, djourou is slow on the turn and loses focus. Wenger uses his intelligence to find other reasons, he will claim its the offensive style….so why dont we score loads of goals then?..he will say its a collective defense not just the back 4.whats that mean…rvp not tracking back???…
we will win f/all under wenger…this man is a charlatan….in the right place at the right time and inheritor of the best back 4 in europe plus bergkamp, parlour and ian wright.What defense has he ever put together?….in fact all his success was because of henry, pires ljungberg toure lehmann gilberto campbell..a few others and the rest from george graham’s old team. Since adams and co.retired he has struggled, and now we see the real wenger: exposed for what he is: an economics professor masquerading as a football manager!..the luckiest man in football!!!!!
Is this the same manager who said just a few months ago that conceding 40 goals is too much?
Is Arsene finally going senile because he openly acknowledged in a press conference during last season that Arsenal conceded far too many goals to win the title.

Poor performance. Conceded from a set piece ..against a Chinese side. Even our attack looked miserable same story passing every one death, hardly had any good shots on goal. We will not be even in the top 5 .. No wonder Nasri and others want to leave
If our defence is not the problem, then what is? I would really love to get an answer to this question because it has been on-going for some time now and no one at the club has either the will or the inclination to correct it.
In my opinion, there is a defensive problem, but there is also a problem with the midfield, which means that undue pressure is exerted on the defence. This relates to the ability of the midfield to keep the ball in meaningful parts of the field.

THEY NEVER SHOW THE DO OR DIE SPIRIT. THEY ARE A BUNCH OF NO HOPERS WITH NO TALENT.
DJUORUO, SQUILLACHI & KOSSA SHOULD BE SLEEPING WITH THE FISHES NOW. THEY ARE ONLY DELAYING THE INEVITABLE. IF THEY DON’T GO NOW THEY WILL BE FOUND OUT AGAIN NEXT SEASON AND HAVE TO GO.
