Can Szczesny be our no.1 for the next 15 years?

With the departure of Manuel Almunia looming, you can forgive Wojciech Szczesny’s for being confident in his own ability at present.

The Polish international made his mark in the first-team last season after injuries and poor form hit both Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski.

Earlier this week, Szczesny, who thanks to his performances last year has become a very popular figure amongst the Arsenal fans, claimed that he would like to be the clubs number one for the next 10-15 years.

In a recent interview with Arsenal Player, Szczesny had this to say:

‘I realise there is a big chance in front of me and I might not give this No.1 shirt away to anyone else for the next 10 to 15 years. I realise there is a big chance ahead of me and I want to grab it with both hands.’

I think Szczesny should be praised for what he has come out and said because he was absolutely superb coming in the way he did last season, and credit to him for hanging on to the spot and affectively rendering Almunia useless.

I am aware that Szczesny is only 21-years-old, and as such, will still be prone to mistakes. However, he is prepared to stick by the club he loves and give 100% – right now, that’s what we need.

Can the Pole be our number one keeper for the next 15 years? Damn right he can. His attitude is spot on in my opinion, and I feel a lot happier and secure with him between the sticks rather than Almunia or Fabianski.

Szczesny is aware that he is new to the first-team, and I think his passion for being the number one keeper will enable him to be focused on the job at hand – helping us win a couple of trophies.

The young shot-stopper added:

‘It is my first full season in the first team so I have never been as excited as this. This year will be something new for me if I am lucky enough to start the season as Arsenal’s No.1. I’m very excited and very determined as well. If last season helped me, it helped me because I want so much more. I don’t want to have the feeling I had at the end of last season. I am very excited.’

I am unaware of how long he has left on his current contract. However, Arsene Wenger needs to make sure that the youngster is tied down to a lengthy deal with the club as soon as possible.

Could Szczesny be our no.1 for the next 10-15 years?

Just get another bloody good goalkeeper and stop talking. At 21 and making too many mistakes is not what I called good.

His stupid mistake caused us the Carling Cup. He was played because of injury to Fabianski and the useless Almunia.

I do not know how Wenger can play such players?

    no
he’s young, he’s a decent player ,but i wouldn’t say he’s what we need at this present time.
when he starts leaking goals next season and we have to try mannone we’ll all be blaming wenger for not buying in a quality goalie.
    nothings changed from last year.

Man Utd just splashed £17m on a kid who I think Cheszny is better than, nobody is moaning(and we still have fabianski who is better than Amos or Turnbull)…we did not concede a real goal in the EPL in January, that must mean something… By the way good blog, was already thinking you are a spud

He’s just want we need and with a good defense line, he can do more than he did last season when he was called into the team… I am always very confident seeing him in between the stick….
