German outfit Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Arsenal target Arturo Vidal is close to joining Juventus.

The Chilean midfielder, who bagged 11 goals and 12 assists in 35 appearances for the Bundersliga club last season, has been linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, but the Gunners are reportedly unwilling to meet Leverkusen’s asking price of €12 million (£10.6 million) for the South American star.

Bayern Munich were also said to be interested in Vidal’s services, but it now appears that Juve are in pole position to land the 24-year-old tenacious midfielder this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director, Rudi Voller, recently told Italian publication Tuttosport:

‘An agreement between Bayer and Juve has not yet been reached, but it is very near.’

It is understood that Vidal is on the verge of signing a five-year deal with Juventus, nullifying any hope of Arsenal landing him this summer.

Our search for a potential replacement for want-away Fabregas continues.

If that deal goes through it does leave the door open for Felipr Melo to come to us. He’s more experienced than Vidal and cheaper too. Fingers crossed we land somebody!

  • For heaven sake, what fear do Asene Wenger have in signing very expensive midfielders for? I am with the confidence that if you buy these expensive players, they will at least liberate the club from the silver drought for some seasons.Iam therefore pleading with the management to buy Frank Ribery becoz he is very mature and he can rescue the club from the midfield blunders and can help Semir Nasrir to tackle the midfield problems. The other midfielders like Song, wilshire.Ashavin and abou Diaby will learn from him.

I would rather see Mata sign than Ribery. Ribery is on the decline and would ask for very high wages. Mata is younger, cheaper and would fit in better.

  • AidanGooner says:

If that is their actual asking price it seems more than fair

Arsene Wenger is NOT interested in buying players unless they are CHEAP; therefore the younger, the better if possible. Or else, just buy overused, over-the-hill types like sylvestre, squillaci. That way, no one can blame him for not buying older and experienced players. Finally, ifthey speak French, so much the better for Wenger, not necessarily for the club.

I get what you mean, but surely £10M for a 24-year-old international is cheap? I don’t know who Wenger has in mind, but he needs to make a marquee signing to please the fans

  • ozed says:

why should you want to sign melo. the guy is a red card generating machine.
Hope Wenger does not make that mistake!!!!

    • James says:

He’d be replacing Denilson so is definately a step up! He’s tenacious, a battler and would bring experience and steel to our midfield.

  • Martin says:

You begin to wonder if Arsenal really do have the money to spend! If there is a substantial transfer fund why are we losing out on all our targets for the sake of 1-2 million pounds? The likes of MU, MC, Liverpool and Chelsea are just paying the asking prices are building larger, better and more experienced squads.

unleashing 20 million is not that easy for a professor or rather an economist of wenger.though i believe in him and feels his descisions are not bad.
