Why the words of this player’s agent may surprise a few Arsenal fans

Denilson’s agent has played down talks of his client moving to Serie A giants A.C. Milan, and also stated that the Brazilian’s departure away from the Emirates have not even been discussed.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who last month expressed his desire to leave the Emirates this summer, was linked with move to the Rossoneri in yesterday’s Italian press.

However, Santiago Gerardo (Denilson’s agent), recently told Italian website Calciomercato.it:

‘I know nothing of Milan, I think at the moment it is only rumours.’

‘Spain and another Italian team? Currently there is no negotiations with (Arsene) Wenger.’

‘We often talk about other issues, but we never touched on the topic of a possible departure of Denilson.’

Now Gerardo’s words really worry me, especially his last quote.

Unless he’s telling ‘porkies’, I honestly thought that Arsene Wenger actually granted Denilson permission to leave Arsenal, am I right? I certainly hope this is the case.

Last month, Denilson stated:

‘This has been the worst season of my life and I am so upset, so frustrated. I am a winner and I came here to win trophies but I’ve been here for five years and won nothing. A footballer’s career is over very quickly so it is time for me to move on. This is not a sudden decision. I made up my mind eight months ago. I was fed up of coming home and feeling down. But I haven’t said anything until now because I did not want to disrupt the team during the season. And I haven’t caused a big scene. I’ve simply been to see Arsene Wenger and told him how I felt and he’s agreed to let me go. I know some people will think I am crazy. They are right. It is a great club with a great organisation, a great manager and so many talented players. Yes, I make a good living at Arsenal but other things in life are important. I need a fresh challenge and although I know I’m taking a big gamble I am ready to take that risk.’

Now after reading the midfielder’s comments above, to hear his agent state yesterday that the topic of his client’s departure has ‘never been touched’ has made me feel very nervous, and quite frankly, a little bamboozled.

Nothing against the Brazilian, I just don’t think he is an Arsenal player and was glad to hear that he wants to leave us this summer.

True, he has been with us for 5 years and that we haven’t won anything during this time. However, I can’t recall him doing anything noteworthy, or great to help the cause.

Anyway, I slightly went off the rail there (sorry guys). What I’m trying to get across in this article is – is Deni actually leaving Arsenal?

Because according to his agent, it doesn’t appear to be a possibility.

Let’s not get over-concerned with fringe players who are leaving or staying. More importantly, concentrate on the opening of the overall transfer window tomorrow and patiently await, IN DUE COURSE, Wenger’s dealings over the next EIGHT WEEKS.

nicky, we’ve dumped 600 million quid into this squad over the past five years and you’re suggesting we just relax and it will all come up roses in eight short weeks. Mate, your heart may be in the right place but you’ve got a brain the size of a walnut.

did you hear wenger saying in his interview that there is no movement on transfers and he is expecting to be more busy at the end of july! sick of this guy… nasri and clichy are close to signing for man city, its on sky sports! febregas leaving as well!!! what is happening to our club? will somebody do something? i have bought tickets to emirates cup, expectingto see new players playing alongside fabregas and nasri, and instead we will all see f*cking denilson alongside ebue walking around the pitch… sick of it…….

I will be greatly upset if I ever see this guy in an Arsenal shirt again. It beats my imagination that players that Wenger put much more faith in than they deserve, and that did not do anything to justify the faith come out to berate us this way. By this statement, he offered himself for grabs by anyone and no one is interested. If Nasri, Fabragas, Wilshire or Ramsey made this statement when Denilson did, they would have become other teams’ players by now. This only means one thing – he is useless.

Dammit den, just go to some other club quietly already

why is this guy even still around, surely he should be at a club which can match his winning mentality …. seriously do we have to do a whip round and pay for the guys plan ticket ?

Hes like a horror story, he just keeps coming back when you think you had gotten rid of him

      Well said.

This week is so painful, the rumors of great players leaving and the crap one’s staying!

    • thegoon says:

HAHAHA, yeh, he’s like that annoying kid at school that always wants to hang around with ur group and just when u think he’s got the hint, hes there again being all loud and annoying!

    I feel physically f*cking sick!

    How about taking it literally?
    Denilson spoke to Wenger.
But Wenger didn’t speak to his agent.
Doesn’t mean someone else didn’t. Just that it wasn’t Wenger…

  • sunder says:

You’re kidding right? Agents deal in subterfuge, misleading communication, shady talk, double dealings….are you really going to trust the words of a (more than) interested party, this agent, over those of the manager? Of all managers I’ve read or watched, there is no one that plays fewer mind games and tells fewer lies to gain advantage than Arsene Wenger. Rather than bullshit, he just keeps quiet. Of course, it’s unnerving to many of us supporters, but keep in mind: these guys (Arsene, Gadzis etc.) are doing a lot of deal making, negotiating etc. that we know little about, and if they openly share their true sentiments publicly, it only can screw their chances to complete the deals that they really want to do…bottom line: don’t trust the irate and manipulative words of a half-assed looked-over midfielder over one of the most ethical and top managers in World football. Trust me, unless Denilson’s agent makes it seem that Arsenal are keen to keep his client, he’s of much less value to potential new employers. Remember, agents are paid on commission….

So Denilson says ‘I am a winner and came here to win trophies’ but fails to understand he hasn’t been good enough to make that happen. In reality he’s not much of a winner as no club seems to be interested in him. I do hope he gets his dream move away from the Emirates for the clubs sake.
