Should Wenger attempt to land this experienced striker?

Samuel Eto’o recently announced that he is pondering a move away from Inter Milan to the Premier League this summer.

Speaking to Italian publication, Corriere dello Sport, the Cameroon international said:

‘I’m evaluating some suggestions: I have a month to decide whether to stay or choose the Premier League, I’m 30 so I will have to consider well before the last real contract. I won the gamble to be able to play in Italy and in my mind the time to play in England is now approaching.’

This news has rightly alerted the attentions of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. However, recent reports claim that Inter president Massimo Moratti has spoken to his ‘want-away’ stars and suggested that they are happy at the club. Nonetheless, Eto’o’s words will no doubt worry the Serie A club, especially after it was announced that Leonardo Araújo decided to quit Inter to fill the position at PSG.

Now the question is, should Arsenal attempt to land him this summer? Well, realistically, yes we should. We should definitely look at signing the striker this summer, as I think he would make a fantastic acquisition for any team let alone Arsenal. Last season, Eto’o managed to make 57 appearances for Inter in all competitions, scoring 37 goals and bagging 15 assists along the way, which if you look at it another way leaves just 5 games where he hasn’t either scored or assisted a goal.

There is no reason why we shouldn’t go for Samuel Eto’o. I am aware that he is now 30-years-old, but still, he is a fantastic player. The only thing is, I think Arsene Wenger may look for a younger player to add to his squad, rather than splashing out on an established player like Eto’o. However, on the flip side, we are apparently looking for some experience.

Let’s take a look at Samuel Eto’o in action:

Would I like to see Eto’o at Arsenal? Yes without a doubt, I rate him highly and he has done wonders for Inter this season. Bringing in a player of his calibre this summer would definitely show intent that we do mean business. However, I have my doubts that he would sign for Arsenal, and that Arsenal would bid for him.

Simple answer to the headline is a BIG NO. some of you may not agree but I dont care

I’ll believe it when I see it. At the moment I think it’s a non starter, just like Eden Hazard. Let’s just leave Arsene to get on with it. We probably won’t sign even 5% of the players we’re “interested in” according to the papers.

It sounds crazy but at 30 the guy is too old for the Arsenal set-up. We certainly couldn’t compete with the “sugar daddy” sides for his transfer fee, let alone cope with his massive (allegedly reduced) wages.

  • Goonerbadboy says:

Nope! We don’t need him. He’s coming to England for his last pay deal We have become a dumping ground for these have beens. why did he not come here in his prime? Now he is knackered he wishes to come. It will be a stupid club that takes the bait.

Since when has Arsenal become a dumping ground for has-beens? That is not true in my assessment. Instead, the more accurate assertion is that Arsenal is more of a proving ground for young players.

Aside from that we could definitely use some more experience and a poacher type. Eto’o would bring both aspects but I think the move is highly unlikely due to his wage demands and his alleged reputation/attitude issues in the locker room. His ability is without question though and he looks to take really good care of himself so he could very well have 3 or 4 more good years left in him.

Are you having a Fu*#ing larf!!!
God almighty I hate the transfer season, especially as a Gooner, it’s even more frustrating than watching our team self destruct every year after January!!!
Wake the f*#k up, Wenger will haggle until the last damn day over a couple of measly million pounds on deals cause I truly believe he thinks it’s coming out of his pocket! Or more likely he’s on a retainer from the board for saving £s.
No big signings are coming in, get used to it. And they say he has a £60 mill kitty to play with. Add that to all the other money he’s supposed to have each transfer window and how much hasn’t he now spent. Imagine if it was cumulative how much we would have to spend. But no let’s not spend and make the board directors even more stinking rich.
At least if the fat russian bought us we would see some money spent and quality come in.
Oh it’s pretty damn funny how no one wants our unwanted kids now, who were supposed to be the future if Arsenal. What a joke. How far the mighty arsenal have now fallen under the twat Wenger!

I can’t see this hapening. We were offered Eto’o + cash for Henry and Wenger declined when he was 26 and in his prime so why would Wenger now think that bringing a 30 year old Eto’o to the Emirates is a great idea??? The only reason we’d bag him is because Arsene is feeling the pressure from the fans to get a “big name”. I’d rather us get Falcao, Demaio or Benzema. Bad news is Tottenham look close to bringing in Demaio.

Arsenal are always second, haven’t won nothing almost 6 years now? nothing worth talking about, while eto showed them (sometimes killed them) again and again. Eto is not a winner not a second. He is Madrid Killer, Barca Killer, Chealsea Killer last time they went quite like church mouse, killed Man utd in 15 min,Beyern Killer, Lyon Killer, and of coz killed arsenal the in the only champions league final they ever seen. he comes he sees he corncers. It took Eto 2 year to give inter six titles ( he don’t need more than 2 years by arsenal trust him on that) what Ibrahimovic couldn’t do in 5 years, the only player to win 9 titles in three years. it doesn’t matter if he cost even 60 milions, cos you signing for titles, and in his best shape. everybody knows what he does at his best, and he has minimum 3 winning years left in him. last year as bonus for arsenal, since Arsenal have only been chilling watching everybody win, i suggest they take the only winning chances they get by any means necessary. or else another season where they almost win something, talk talk, no walk. hahaha
