Why possible departures this summer may leave us worse off next season

|

Among the list of Arsenal players believed to be leaving the Emirates this summer are, Bendtner, Denilson, Arshavin and Eboue. This of course is not even including star players linked with other clubs.

Arsene Wenger has recently admitted that he will be ‘very active’ in the summer transfer window, and that he wanted to increase the ‘solidity’ of the team.

Admittedly, the above named players have received a great deal of criticism over the past few seasons. However, how would their departures affect the club?

Well first of all, Wenger will be forced to spend on new fringe players, something the club would like to avoid, if the links with Karim Benzema and the reported transfer budget are true.

The possibility of a £35 million signing would leave Arsenal with a reported £15 million left to sign replacements for the fringe players, plus a desperately needed centre-back. Even with Wenger’s negotiating skills, that would be an almost impossible task wouldn’t you say?

While first-team improvement is key, Arsenal already lack the depth that Manchester United and Manchester City have.

A solution, which some Arsenal fans may disagree with, would be to sign Neymar from Santos for £15 million, or sign a new centre-back for £15 million and spend the rest of the budget (£35 million) on replacements for the departed fringe players.

At times last season, we were forced to play unknowns due to the clubs lack of depth. Ignasi Miquel, Craig Eastmond and Wojciech Szczesny were among these players, although Szczesny’s performances have earned him a rightful spot in first-team.

But the real question remains, which first team players will remain at the club this summer, and which will be heading out the Emirates doors?

It’s true, the departures could make us worse for next season, this is why wenger needs to spend and and also bring back some of the players who are on loan. If we lose Fabregas and Nasri, they must be replaced by quality signings. It’s as simple as that.

Who told you that we have 50M to spend ? and who on earth did tell you that we are going to sign Benzema for 35 M? He is not even a regular at Bernabeau. Stupid journalism based on no facts,go get a life

I would like to start of by saying I wrote the article and that I doubt that we will spend £50m in the summer. However some papers reported that £50m was ‘available’ it was also reported that Real would ask for £35m for Benzema, that was NOT my own valuation. As far as Carl Jenkinson is concerned I doubt he will be a cover for Sagna, he’ll probably go on loan so we will have to replace Eboue, perhaps with Gassama. The point I was making was that we already lack depth so replacing fringe players with youngsters would be a disaster, imagine playing Frimpong or Lansbury in the Champions League because of injuries. We need a stable squad with lots of depth.

Sorry, but thats just ridiculous. First your over valuing Benzema by 5-10 million pounds and under valuing Neymar by the same amount. Eboue has already been replaced by Carl Jenkinson. Benzema would be Bendtners replacement. Frimpong, Coquelin, and Lansbury are all better at doing Denilsons job than Denilson and if Arshavin does go were likely to replace him with Hazard or Mata. We dont need replacements for the departed fringe players as we have players coming through who need to play to improve and most if not all show real promise.

Fringe players that can go and their replacements
    Almunia (Mannone)
    Squillaci (Bartley)
    Denilson (Frimpong)
    Rosicky (Lansbury)
    Traore (Botelho)
    Vela (Miyaichi)
    Eboue (Jenkinson)
    Eastmond (Coquelin)

I would be quite happy if these changes took place. IMO the squad would be improved. The only players that will need replacing if they leave this summer are Bendtner, Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy, Arshavin, Song, Sagna. That said we must also buy another CH & DM anyway.

chel$ea offered over £25 million for neymar, and both ,Santos and Neymar turned down the deal. What makes you think he would come for £15 million ?

  • ryan says:

35m for Benzema? 15m for Neymar? 50m budget….I am American, and I take massive offense to your ignorance. If you were some guy in the pub talking it would be one thing, but you are a journalist. Get your facts straight jackass….
