A summer target that Arsene Wenger will surely consider signing

|

Arsenal fans must be sick to death with be reminded how long it is since they’ve won a trophy. Arsene Wenger is driving many supporters crazy with a seeming inflexibility toward change.

One signing to compliment his existing strategy would do it. Arsenal may have achieved less than they wanted to, but their season has not been the disaster some would try to tell you it has (just look at their league placing).

Arsene appears adamant he won’t buckle and pay over the odds – even if over the odds is the going rate (if that makes sense) for players. So here’s a solution. Bolton Wanderer’s Johan Elmander – on a free.

Gary Megson shelled out £8.2m for Elmander in 2008, making the Swedish striker Bolton’s record signing. Now however, with Elmander attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal, Juventus and Fenerbache, Bolton boss Owen Coyle has admitted that the Wanderers will struggle to keep hold of their star player. Coyle recently told The Metro:

‘When the season ends, we will certainly have one last go at trying to persuade him to sign a new contract… But if there is a club out there in the top bracket that can offer him the lure of Champions League football, then he will do what any player would.’

Although reports have emerged suggesting that Elmander has struggled to adapt to life at Bolton, he has been sporadically brilliant throughout his stay with the Trotters. He was particularly brilliant in the first half of this season, before Daniel Sturridge arrived at the club and took the spotlight away from him. He remains the club’s top-scorer having notched up 10 goals in the Premier League this season – not bad considering he’s been forced to play out wide to accommodate Sturridge.

Where the Swedish International will end up next season is anybody’s guess, but I highly doubt that he’ll remain with Bolton. If there’s genuine interest from the likes of Arsenal and Juventus, they’ll be able to offer Elmander increased wages and Champion’s League football. Whether or not he’s got the quality and ability to make it at a top club, however, remains to be seen.

I’m swedish and I can tell you right here and now that Elmander is nowhere near the necessary level required to make Arsenal a better team. I Honestly cant see where he would fit. Chamakh is way better. Elmander might have done 10 goals this season, but how many had he made for bolton in total since his arrival before this season? probably less than ten. RVP has 15 on his belt, and that’s after xmas! Arsenal basically need a striker who’s best “skill” is to be at the right spot at the right time and taps the balls in. A young raul, or inzaghi

The disaster is not to finish second or third this year.
The issue is same every year.
We always fall short of determination and experience while if AW had spent the money available on £10-20m players we would have won trophies by now. And despite that we always come to the end of the season hoping Wenger will sign experienced players, and always come the new season, with only second team purchase with the excuses that that’s it, all our youngsters have grown up, and we don’t need anyone with the coming batch of impressive youngsters. That’s been the case the last years, I don’t see AW changing that with his “good enough” CL place assured.
Arsene, you have to understand once and for all that while your youngsters WILL grow up more experienced and mature, all other teams will do as well. So if you want to win that title, put your money where your mouth is…

who said aw hasn’t tried to sign top players? arsenal have never let on to the fans who they in for,and not every player wants to sign for arsnal, again arsenal have done incredibly well, yet the spoilt fans of arsenal want change, spending money on’t mean you get top players, look at arshavin, and even torres at chelsea, arshavin a waste of space for most off a 90 minute game and has got lazier and lazier, torres has been a complete waste off 50million euros, though he will score i doubt he ever be worth the money wasted on him.
now look at koncielny signed for 10million wasn’t expected to play the whole season yet except some poor early performances ,has grown and looks a real bargain, same goes for chamakh, not expected to start season yet did and did well pre xmas,i expect him to step up next season, now that he won’t have the over the top expectations off spoilt fans.
btw vermaleen another 10mill signing our player of the year last season, unfortunatly injured all this season, will be back to full strengh next season, another bargain,ad to that ramsey, walcot, and nasri then i son’t think wenger not done that bad in the transfer market, even sqillachi will i think improve next season, arsenal have never spent multi millions on players and always tried to get cheaper players, like for instance, bould, dixon, winterburn oh and wright, vieria, and of caurse henry (at 10million he was a real bargain).
no other club could of achieved what arsenal have the last 6 years considering we moved stadiums that nearly broke us when then credit cruch came,no other team other then man utd have been in 17 success champions leagues, and yet you only inerested in wenger buying players for 20plus millions of pounds, your arguement very lame and fragile,i’ve only touched on a very small part of what is good at arsenal, thier are i grant you problems but so has every club even man utd have problems like how to replace scholes giggs and van der sar,and rio and vidic, but hey who cares bout them.

Elmander you must be joking all our forwards are much better than him that would be a total waste of time free agent or not let’s get some quality not another cheap fix!

  • Gooner says:

No way. Chamakh and Bendtner both way better. Need a goal poacher instead.
