Why the emergence of Thiago could halt Barcelona’s pursuit of Cesc Fabregas

|

Over the past few transfer windows speculation has intensified about the possibility of Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas moving to Barcelona.

As we all know Cesc started his youth career at the Catalan club before moving to Arsenal in 2003, and has since expressed his love for both clubs.

However, it seems less likely that Barca will make a move for the 23-year-old Spaniard now that Thiago Alcântara has stepped in to the spotlight. Barcelona have had great success producing young footballers over the last couple years. Pedro is a shining example of this. A year and half ago no one had heard of him but now he is a first-team regular for the Catalans.

Thiago made his Barcelona first team debut in May 2009 when he came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute against RCD Mallorca.

The creative midfielder is due to officially move up from Barcelona B to the main squad this summer. The 19-year-old plays in the same position as Cesc and certainly looks to be a potential star of the future. But with Barcelona’s financial problems becoming apparent, perhaps it would make more sense to develop Thiago rather than pay a huge amount of cash for Arsenal’s talisman Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas will leave Arsenal no matter what, even though Barca have talented youngsters.

It may halt the pursuit for a season or two, but I think everybody knows Cesc is going to wear the Barcelona colours one day. Thiago is still young, where as Cesc has already proven to be a world-class act. Even though Barca are in financial difficulties they will get their man sooner than later. Good concept though.
