Who should be Arsene Wenger’s next right-hand man after Pat Rice retires? – Have your say

|

So it appears that Arsenal legend and assistant manager Pat Rice will finally end his 27 year love affair as a staff member at the North London club, after several reports claim that the 62-year-old will retire at the end of the season when his current contract expires.

This will of course leave the Gunners chief, Arsene Wenger, considering possible replacements for the open vacancy this summer.

A number of names have already been thrown in the hat, from legendary centre-back Steve Bould to the ‘Ice man’ Dennis Bergkamp to…Gilles Grimandi!

But who would be best suited to fill the void left by Pat Rice this summer and, evidently, be Wenger’s right-hand man?

If i was taking bets i’d make baldy Bouldy the favourite and it’d be a fantastic choice because Wenger needs a defensively minded assistant, a ying to his yang. Steve Bould has played for the club so he knows the history, he has coached at the club to a very high level so we know that he has the coaching ability and he has worked extensively with the youngsters now breaking through into the first team. There couldn’t be a more perfect assistant. The only question is whether Arsene wants to groom his successor and doesn’t see Steve Bould as a future manager but i think you shouldn’t pick an assistant based on him becoming a good manager. Then there’s the possibility of Liam Brady. If it was a promotion from within it would be between those two. Grimandi is head scout as far as i know and that doesn’t qualify him as a good assistant.
