Do Arsenal fans still ‘love’ Emmanuel Adebayor?

|

Earlier in the week Emmanuel Adebayor released a statement which left me completely bamboozled.

The former Arsenal striker was reported in several media publications this week saying:

‘At Arsenal the fans loved me, I think even today they love me.’

I’m struggling to come to terms with these comments and am wondering why he thinks this. Maybe he heard it from a bunch of phony Arsenal fans or something, but realistically, the majority of the Arsenal faithful absolutely despise him because of what occurred two years ago at the City of Manchester Stadium. The 27-year-old did himself no favours with his former fans by firstly raking Robin van Persie’s face with his studs, then after scoring against the Gunners, the Togo striker decided to run the entire length of the pitch and celebrate right in front of the traveling Arsenal fans. Since that day, Adebayor has been truly hated by the Gooners.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he was a good striker when he was with us. In my opinion, Adebayor performed well for the club and at one stage I thought he would have been the next Nwankwo Kanu, unfortunately this never transpired. When he left Arsenal I wished him all the best, but after disrespecting the club, Arsene Wenger, and most importantly, the fans, I lost total respect for the guy.

Adebayor’s Manchester City career so far hasn’t exactly been great, which is good to see. Since his move to Eastland’s, the front-man has found it hard to settle, and with new recruits being brought in during the last transfer window, he has found it even harder to feature in the City line-up. However, he has certainly turned his luck around after he joined Real Madrid on loan. Adebayor has managed to score 5 goals in 14 appearances for the Spanish club so far, which in fairness is not bad. Is the striker finally proving his critics wrong? Well, only time will tell.

His latest statement got me thinking whether he is in fact hinting on a return to the Emirates Stadium this summer. However, even if my suspicions are accurate, I truly can’t see Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal fans welcoming him back with open arms. I also don’t think Emmanuel Adebayor is as good as he was, and believe the striker reinforces the argument that there is no life after Arsenal.

I love Adebayor for what he did against tottenham in the champions league but bad news Adebayer, we still hate you and wish you bad luck in your career. Well thats what I think anyway.
