Are we finally seeing the real Theo Walcott emerge?

|

Despite missing a large chunk of the campaign through injury, Theo Walcott rates this season as being his best for Arsenal since joining the North London club back in 2006.

The 22-year-old forward, who has so far managed to bag 8 goals and contribute 8 assist in 28 Premier League appearances for the Gunners this season, reckons he has improved during the course of the campaign. Walcott was quoted on talkSPORT’s website saying:

‘I definitely think my goals and assists have stood out, given that I’ve missed 12 or 13 weeks with injuries I couldn’t have prevented.’

‘I’m happy with what I’ve given to the team and I think I’ve learned the game more – I’m putting in balls for people to gamble on, which I think they are getting used to. So hopefully that will continue and I can continue improving.’

Walcott also mentioned his great understanding and relationship with striker Robin van Persie on and off the pitch:

‘We do link up nicely and we get on very well off the pitch, too. As long as I set up the goals and he scores I’m happy! It’s just been instinctive, really – we know where to put the ball for each other.’

Statistically, it has been Theo’s best season for the Gunners.

It’s great to see the Englishman contributing in the goals and assists departments, as we all know he has the talent to do so. However, with all his attacking ability, I still don’t think his decision making is quite their yet. However, he is developing in the right way which is a good sign.

If the England international can improve on his final ball and decision making, as well as being deployed as a striker by Arsene Wenger, then potentially, Walcott could be devastating for Arsenal in the near future. Here’s hoping.

I think Walcott has improved a lot and I would agree that this season has been his best. You can see that he and van Persie have a good understanding and work really well together. I think he and van Persie should be deployed as a strike partnership. Could you imagine Walcott’s pace with van Persie’s passing and shooting ability, deadly, that’s all I have to say.

I still think Walcott has to improve on some aspects of his game like his decision making and using his pace for his advantage, but he is still young and can improve. Hopefully he stays injury free next season.

Walcott is good with the ball at full speed, he isnt good when the play slows down and he has to dribble, thats what he needs to improve on.
