Arda Turan – A potential replacement for Samir Nasri?

|

Over the past couple of months, Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri has been stalling on a new deal at the North London club, which has left many Gooners worried about the Frenchman’s future this summer.

Consequently, Arsene Wenger could be searching for a suitable replacement for the 23-year-old Frenchman. Maybe Galatasaray’s Arda Turan could step up to the plate?

The 24-year-old creative midfielder had a successful Euro 2008 campaign with Turkey, which linked him with a move to Newcastle at the time. However, the Turkish giants rejected the Magpie’s £9 million offer.

So far this season, Turan has managed to bag 8 goals and 4 assists in 19 games for Galatasaray. The Turkish international has said in the past:

‘I want to play in major leagues…’

The attacking midfielder has previously expressed a desire to move to Liverpool, which evidently shows that he is in fact willing to make a switch to the Premier League in the near future.

Many reading this might not know but Arda Turan has been involved in a lot of charity work, which might attract him to Arsenal, as they also do a lot of work to help local and foreign communities.

Turan has only won two trophies so far in his career, these being the Turkish Super Cup and the Turkish Super Lig in 2008. The Turk has also been awarded Turkish League Player of the Year two years running in 2008 and 2009.

Turan could be just the player Wenger is looking for; he is a Turkish international who helped his country to the Euro 2008 semi-finals and has also played Champions League football with Galatasaray.

The midfielder could cost in the region of £10-£20 million, which would go against Wenger’s strict transfer policy. However, Andrey Arshavin has recently been linked with a move back to Zenit, so cash may not be an issue for the Arsenal boss.

These factors may well play a major part in a possible move for the Turkish midfielder. However, would he be willing to leave his childhood club for Arsenal this summer?

    8 goals and 4 assists in 19 games……..nope.

    • Thomas Munson says:

Yes but he creates a lot of chances, he might not be the man who passes to the player who scores but without him Galatasaray wouldn’t get anyway near as many goals

  • karis says:

he is not good for arsenal

I think 8 goals in 19 games is alright. roughly a goal every 2 games, and considering he is an attacking midfielder/winger that’s a good return

  • Man says:

I don’t think he’ll be good enough to replace Nasri. His record doesn’t look that good, Arsenal need to get a proper winger who will score practically week in week out. I think we should get Eden Hazard as he is young and very talented.

A winger who scores week in week out?!!!! You must be having a laugh!!
I don’t think such a winger exists, and you’d be lucky to get a striker to score virtually every week. It is part of the reason why we are in our current position.
A return of 8 goals from 19 games is impressive stats!

Turan is not deserve to arsenal becouse 8 goals is not enough at 19 games

Didn’t even realise Nasri was leaving…

May be this guy called Dario Concas is the guy we need to forget Fabregas, Arshavin or Nasri if any of the leaves.

This is a good player, but selling Arshavin is a really bad idea. If Arshavin wants to go because AFC no longer have any real ambition, so be it, but we’d be losing our most incisive player as well.

  • Jengiz says:

I would hate to see Nasri leave but Arda Turan would be a perfect replacement for Arshavin. He is more creative, will score more goals and a definite team player. Galatasaray and Turkey are not in the top tier of Football but without this lad they would be a lot worse. He is a wonderful talent and at around £12 million an absolute snip.
Gooners would love him for sure
