This afternoon is Arsenal’s best chance of ending trophy drought…period

|

Birmingham City haven’t won a major trophy since 1963, as for the Gunners, their last trophy came in 2005.

This match will undoubtedly see both teams bring their ‘A’ game in order to achieve a victory at Wembley this afternoon.

Blues boss Alex McLeish has recently played a 4-4-2 system with Obafemi Martins and Nikola Zigic. Both strikers have their own individual qualities, but it will be Zigic’s height that will be a major threat to Wenger’s men today, especially with ex-arsenal player Sebastian Larsson supplying the crosses. With Theo Walcott ruled out of today’s final, Blues right-back Stephen Carr will certainly venture a lot further up the pitch, which could potentially see Gael Clichy have a busy outing. However, Birmingham City will be without dependant Centre-back Scott Dann, and ex-arsenal playmaker Alexander Hleb. I am also glad to see former gunner David Bentley unable to participate due to being cup tied. I certainly wouldn’t have liked to see him score against us today…unlucky David, maybe next season.

As we all know Arsenal Captain Cesc Fabregas and winger Theo Walcott have been ruled out of the cup final this afternoon, so we are more than likely to see Samir Nasri play infield, with Andrey Arshavin on the left, and either Nicklas Bendtner or Tomas Rosicky on the opposite side. Birmingham City sit in 15th place in the Premier League with a current record of 6 wins, 12 draws and 8 losses, which equal 30 points. Their last 5 games have seen them pick up 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss…good form to say the very least, wouldn’t you say?

This will be Arsenal’s first cup final in 4 years, and I for one hope we don’t repeat the result of the 2007 Carling Cup final. I am excepting a high energy game, with lots of tackles and flair, but to fair, I just hope and pray that we are victorious at the end of 90 minutes. I have simply had enough with the media going on and on about our trophy drought, come on Arsenal do us proud today.
