Finally, a positive statement that rings loud and true from Arshavin

|

Andrey Arshavin believes Arsenal must quickly forget about their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United and instead focus on future challenges that lie ahead, starting with Stoke on Saturday. Although it’s yet another statement from the Russian, his latest finally seems to be one of positive, rather than negative words.

Arsenal succumbed to a narrow loss at Old Trafford to a somewhat unfortunate Ji Sung Park header which came from a deflected cross. Nonetheless, the 29-year-old Russian swiftly brushed off the defeat and has called upon his team-mates to do the same.

Arshavin told The Sun today that there is no time to wallow in self pity if they want to continue their quest for the title:

‘There is no time to be melancholy or sad. We need to forget this defeat and start thinking about the next match – nothing has been lost yet. But we didn’t deserve defeat. The match was a battle. Both teams fought and unfortunately we lost.’

The Russian forward finished off by saying:

‘I think United had more luck than us during the game. If it wasn’t for a fortunate bounce at the end of the first half, we would have gone in at 0-0 and the second half would have been easier.’

This view seems to be shared amongst others in the Arsenal dressing room. After the game, young midfielder Jack Wilshere agreed with his team-mate and on his Twitter account wrote:

‘Very upset about the result but have to move on.’

Without a doubt Andrey Arshavin’s words are spot on and great to hear. Arsenal must forget about this result and now prepare for the visit of Stoke. A win against the Potters would put the Gunners back on top ot the table providing that Chelsea beat United on Sunday. However, many Arsenal fans have already questioned the commitment of Arshavin this season, and although his comments are deemed worthy and true, they may feel that the Russian is not the player to voice them following inconsistent performances.

Nevertheless, I’m glad to see someone from our team has come out and said it. The fact is there are 21 games left in the Premier League and anything can still ensue from now until May.

Arsenal are still in with a shout of being crowned champions and hopefully we can grab a big win this Saturday at Stoke City’s expense. However, everybody knows that actions speak louder than words, and I am hoping that although he has the right attitude going forward, Arshavin must show what he means on the pitch, rather than just release yet another statement.

  • Harry says:

Arshavin is right, Arsenal must move on and concentrate on their next game against Stoke. It’s about time he said something positive about Arsenal because most of the time it is negative. Arshavin must also look at his own performance and raise his game because he is a good player but is not showing it.
