Wenger intent on success, but can he provide it?

|

Arsene Wenger is desperate to bring glory to the Emirates, so much so that he will continue to give ‘every drop of his blood’ to do so. However, is the Frenchman out of his depth? Or can he finally reward the fans and his players with some silverware after a 5 year drought?

Wenger appears to be fixated and even more determined to bring silverware to the North London outfit now than he ever did in the past.

The Frenchman believes that his team are worthy of success and wants his current squad to end the trophy drought which has been hovering over the club for over 5 years. Wenger told Sky Sports yesterday:

“I want this team to win so much that I am giving every drop of my blood to make sure this team wins. I want them to be successful because they deserve it, so of course it hurts when you get so close as we did on Saturday and you do not manage to do it.”

The Arsenal boss finished off by saying:

“I just feel we have had two or three opportunities to be top of the league and we did not take it for different reasons.”

There is no doubt that the Frenchman’s desire is visible to all, and there is also a bruised bottle at the Emirates on Saturday to prove it. However, does Wenger really believe that this squad is capable of lifting silverware come the end of May?

As Wenger said, Arsenal have had two or three great opportunities to top the league already this season, but haven’t taken them. The Frenchman pinpointed that his side are not leading the pack because of ‘different reasons’, but what exactly does he mean by this? I believe I have a notion, and several reasons why we are not on top of the league…in truth, we are still missing key pieces in our puzzle.

By this I mean we are missing current squad members like Thomas Vermaelen, Abou Diaby and Aaron Ramsey, but many fans will believe (like me) that the squad will need strengthening this January to last the distance. Arsenal have a good squad depth as oppose to other previous ones, but many players are either always injured or simply not Arsenal material.

The new arrivals this summer have helped the squad grow and certainly injected new life within the club, although there still seems to be something missing. Anyway this will be discussed later on in the week; the fact is we are not topping the Premier League because we have not been performing like we are capable of. Our home record has become a joke, and the team have fallen into the habit of letting commanding leads slip away. If things don’t change for the better, then this looks set to continue throughout the following weeks…maybe months.

Wenger may believe he can end the trophy drought with this current bunch this season, and maybe he can (I’m certainly hoping he does) but changes need to occur for this to ensue and fast. A handful of fans may feel the longest serving manager in Arsenal’s history is finally at the end of his tether after 14 years in charge. However, there is no doubt that Wenger and his team will continue to fight, whether he can provide silverware by the end of May remains to be seen.

I’m glad to hear he is loves Arsenal that much but unfortunately he must bolster the squad or forget it, because the current squad won’t do it for him. The only way he can deliver is by buying new players to strengthen the squad. This will also benefit the current team as it will provide healthy competition and make them fight for there positions.
