5 things I learnt about Arsenal after the defeat to Spurs

|

Here are the 5 things I noticed after the defeat to Tottenham this past Saturday:

1. Another home defeat

The loss to Spurs this past weekend was the Gunners third home defeat of the season, and quite frankly the most hurtful one so far. Arsenal’s home record this season has been a total shambles as to oppose to their record last season at the Emirates. Arsenal only lost 2 games out of their 19 in North London last year, and they were against title rivals Chelsea and Manchester United. We have already lost 3, and in all fairness, to teams we should have beaten comfortably. With the way things are going, it looks like this tally will grow by the end of the season, unless Wenger sorts out this predicament quickly.

2. Defence still looks shaky

Our defence isn’t as strong as fans think it is, even with the new acquisitions Wenger signed last summer. There is no real consistency at the moment, and the back-line still looks to be Arsenal’s achilles heel. The Gunners have conceded a total of 9 goals in 7 home games to date, and will concede more if they don’t get their act together in a hurry. A number of fans may agree that Wenger needs to dip into the winter window to resolve this problem.

3. Fabianski not at fault

Having seen the 3 goals we conceded again, I think it’s fair to say that Lukasz Fabianski was hapless with all of them. The Polish keeper has been criticised in the past for making stupid mistakes, but there was nothing the 25-year-old could do about the goals. The first was a well placed shot by Bale which would have seen any goalkeeper suffer the same consequences. The second was a penalty, and the third was due to a defensive error in the box and lack of concentration by the outfield players. He may have not kept a clean sheet, but, in my opinion, Fabianski was one of our better players on the day.

4. Lack killer instinct

Great first half performance to gain a 2 goal lead, but in the second 45, we either dropped gears (which is what I think happened) or Tottenham played well. The fact is Arsenal showed once again that they are incapable of killing off a team from a great position. From what should have been a 4-0 win, turned into a horrible 2-3 defeat for Wenger and fans alike.

5. First home defeat to Spurs since 1993

Arsenal’s loss to Spurs last Saturday was their first home defeat to their bitter rivals in over 17 years. The last time this happened was on the 11th of May 1993, where Spurs beat the Gunners in a convincing 1-3 win at Highbury.

I still can’t believe we lost in that manner to Tottenham, how could Arsenal be wining 2-0 and then throw it away like that, unbelieveable!

Arsenal need to sort out there home form, sort out the defence and kill off teams. I think the way to improve your home form to sort out the defence by buying new defenders and Arsenal must take there chances infront of goal, because we miss to many.
